Hi All,

This be my 1st post, Im running 3x23" 3x1L Display, with ATI Radeon HD 5850 BE CrossfireX, 6GB Ram and a Phenom II x4 @ 3.4Ghz,

Im thinking of doing some upgrading, im planning of at least doubling the ram, getting some new GFX Cards and possible going for WC.

I would like any suggestions on good GFX Cards for me to upgrade to keeping with ATI and CrossfireX...

I had been looking at the new 7000 series but have read things here and there about problems when using them in CrossfireX, has any one heard anything about this?

Well any input would be appreciated,

regards,

Tim

i've been running two HD7970 for.... around 7 months now!
Sure, you have the Crossfire problems like not optimized drivers, no CF support, worse performance than single GPU. but else, no problem!

Might be best with a pair of GTX670s? And then maybe incorporate a new motherboard and CPU and RAM into the upgrade? The Phenom II was never really that fast.

2 important questions will be:

1) What is the most intensive game you want to play?

2) How much do you want to spend?

Thanks for the replies,

1) I'm not really sure how to answer 1st question.. I play all the big title strategy games, Simcity is coming out soon that I would like to play in Max settings, Arma III, So im talkin 2013 releases at nearest to full graphics ideally.

2) Money well I guess its not really an issue, but don't want to wast it on something not needed. My current cards cost a total of £330 so I guess between £400 and £500 for an upgrade would be ideal.. but its flexible.

I was thinking of grabbing some more ram possibly 12GB but im not sure ill ever use that much, I rarely encounter much issues with 6GB. I haven't considered swapping my mother board or CPU, I havent really had much issues regarding them.

Honestly, i would hold off on upgrading your ram. 6 GB should probably be enough for a little while longer, and ram isnt too pricy right now so you can always get it after your videocard upgrade if you feel it's really needed.

For the videocard, dual 670's is probably above budget? (using those myself i can recommend them from a performance perspective though :P). I'd probably start with either a 670 or a 7970, my personal preference right now is on Nvidia since i've had too much crap with AMD lately and my 670 kicked the living daylights out of my 7970. But i've heard plenty of succes stories on AMD too so dont look too much into that :P

The 7950 might also be an interesting card as you can get those for 250-300 already (just watch out if you're sensitive to sound, the reference cooler on the 7950/7970 is said to be noisy) and some of them overclock quite far if you're into that.

Its been a while but thanks for the comments much appreciated. I'm thinking of staying loyal to AMD and grabbing myself a HD 7970 Ghz Edition.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentatio ... id=1&leg=0

I've seen one at £360 which I don't think is terrible, and it has DisplayPort, instead of Mini-Displayport, which I'm using currently. So I wont have to purchase a new DVI - Mini-Displayport adaptor thingy.

I wont bother upgrading RAM unless I see it maxing out more than occasionally.

Thanks Again
