So with the new GTX 680 out on the market, there have been many benchmarks on a resolution of 1080p/i.

However, I'm wondering - performance wise - what the best solution is currently. Does one still go with two GTX 580 3GB in SLI, or is the new GTX 680 in Surround just as effective?

I realize the 580 should be the latter, considering the extra 1GB of VRAM, however I don't know what kind of performance this new 680 gets in surround.

It's absolutely no slouch. The fact that it's also cooler running, quieter and a lot less power hungry than SLI GTX580s makes me want to say the GTX680 wins hands down.

When the 4GB version is released, there won't be any competition any more for which nVidia solution is better, as it removes the VRAM issue from the equation entirely.

Nope it wont! Gtx680 uses 256bit interface with 6ghz! While 580 3gb uses 512bit with 4800 or 5000 idr... Sorry.

But the 680 is already at the limit with 2gb! If you have a 4gb Card you will have severe performance loss with heavy VRam usage!

So OC'ed the 7970 will performe better in TrippleMonitor!

Well AMD is not an option for me, as the quality of the company itself has been made abundantly clear to me last year.

So as far as NVIDIA goes, Paradigm is saying the 4GB version will be the way to go, but Haldi is saying it's going to be worse. I want a real confirmation here, which is better? GTX680, or two GTX 580 3GB editions in SLI?

I can't be bothered to get into a debate about it. It depends what you want from the setup. Are the improvements made by nVidia on the 600 series worth the potential bottleneck from a 256-bit memory interface? I've covered the obvious advantages already, so I won't go over them again.

If you're unsure, I'd wait for the cards to be released, and hope that somewhere does a test that focusses on Surround again.

Well, let me ask you this: are there GTX 680 Benchmarks available for surround? (At least the current version.)

Well, looks like the best setup right now, is still the two GTX 580 3GB editions.

I'm looking at Crysis 2, and seeing about 20 FPS on surround for both the 7970 and 680. Not worth it.
