Post subject:  Some Crossfire Queries...

(Current rig in sig below.)

With Boxing Week sales going, I'm considering buying an MSI Frozr III 6950 to pair with my current ASUS 6950 with unlocked shaders.

So, how do i go about installing the drivers? Uninstall current/ install new with a single card in first, then add second, and CAP profiles? THat order?

Since default clock speeds will differ, will the pair run at the slower clockspeed?

It seems that I may not be able to unlock this card.. if no, will nto all shaders on current card be used? Not a deal-breaker, jsut curious.

Pretty sure it's a yes, but my PSU is sufficient, no?

Does it matter which Crossfire bridge is used on teh cards? I assume not.

thanksssss

Post subject:  I recently upgraded to CFX

I recently upgraded to CFX myself, no need to reinstall drivers for me, I simply switched pc off, installed card + bridge, switched pc on and was told that CFX was avaiable to me and just needed to tick a box in the drivers to enable it.

I did have to install the latest CAP release so as some of my more recent games worked in CFX but that was it.

Farly painless really.

CFX can work across different cards such as the 6950 and 6970, so even if 1 card does not unlock, it will still work in CFX.

I am unsure about speeds, I know nvidia does match speeds, I dont know for AMD, mine run matched speeds, but they are the same cards anyways soI cannot tell, when I am in windows desktop, 1 of card does run faster than the other as the 2nd gpu is more idle but when in 3D they both run the same.

As for the bridge I used a CFX brdige i got form Ebay, standard 7cm ribbon cable, works good for me :)

What PSU you have? its not listed x]

Post subject:  Ah thanks. I have a Corsair

Ah thanks. I have a Corsair hx850w. I got not-so-lazy and actually looked at eh specs, and i will be just fine.

My ASUS card came with a "standard" bridge, which is apparently long enough to span the 2 empty (4x and 2x) PCI-E slot i have between my 16x and 8x slots.

Actually turns out that i card i almost order was mislabeled and is actually a 1gb, which i caught on the order page, but NCIX has a Powercolor 2gb for $70 off so i guess I'll grab that instead. Only 10 bucks more.

Thanks, Delphium.
