Hi forum,

I've decided to buy the Dell U3011, and stick to what I've known with 30inch gaming. I have an older 30inch from Dell (2007 model) as well.
I've literally just booted my new computer I built, and am curious how to get two 30 inch monitors at 2560x1600 res.
I have two 6970s crossfired. Both monitors have dual-link DVI cables.
Currently both monitors are plugged into the one 6970, with my main monitor (U3011) in the DVI-I slot and is running at 2560x1600. The 2007 30inch is in the other DVI slot, which I believe is DVI-D, and it will not run above 1200x800.
If I plug it into the DVI-I slot in the 2nd 6970, it doesn't bring up an image at all, same with the second DVI-D.
Hard to find help on this issue, anything info would be of great assistance.
Cheers guys,
Finn.
PS: all updated OS and drivers. I have also heard you need an active mini-displayport to DVI adapter for the 2nd monitor. But I have read that displayport is limited to 1920x1080. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Hugh and Tom

I don't think DVI-I can run resolutions that high. I'd suggest an adapter. I'm not sure if HDMI 1.3 can muster that resolution, but DP sure can.. Monoprice has many, and are cheap. Heck, your video cards may have come with an adapter

So you don't think the DVI ports can simultaneously support two resolutions of 2560x1600? In which case it needs one DVI and one mini-diplayport via an mini-displayport to DVI active adapter out from the single GPU?
