The 250 is basically a slightly updated 8800GTX. Which is still decent horsepower, but won't push high quality graphics on new games anymore except at 1280 and below prolly. Lower graphics down and it'll run decent at higher res's. Prolly still a noticeable difference from what you got but not insane. Recommend a 5770, not much more and MUCH MUCH MUCH better in pretty much every way. If it has to be NV, try to find a cheap 260 GTX.

A friend of mine has a 1gb 250gts and it's serving him well on his 1920x1200 display, though it's about reached its' peak. it's not enough (paired with his X2 6000+) to run any AA in anything close to new, and will certainly not be enough to drive multiple screens. But he can play MW2, BC2, and Just Cause 2 (fuck, all those 2's) without a problem.

So, it'd do, but it's barely an upgrade from your 9800. Which is yet another re-branded 8800. Though the 250 uses 45nm and runs VERY cool, allowing for a lot of overclocking. I'd save up and get something beefier.a 5770 or 260 would be a pretty good impr-you-vement. Once teh new Nvidia cards come out, we may see a drop in the 2xx series.

You can't really get a good priced 260 GTX anymore. They are pretty much end of life and the few left out there have jacked up prices at this point above $200. Might find some deals on Ebay from someone with older stock. Best bet would be to find one used in the $125 range. But doesn't really make sense to, the 5770 is a better choice.
