Samsung 2233rz vs Viewsonic 2265wm

So I really want to know which one of these monitors I should buy for hardcore fps gaming.

They both display at 1680x1050 @ 120hz.

I heard the Viewsonic has a better response time...or is it lower input lag?

I heard the Samsung has a better contrast ratio.

The Viewsonic is about $45 cheaper than the Samsung.

Price is really not the factor, but performance/picture is.

I would love any help, and thanks in advance!

Review of the Samsung here... http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2009/review-samsung-2233rz.html

and not sure on the Viewsonic. I don't believe I have seen a review for it, but they should be similar, there can't be that many manufacturers that are making 120Hz 22" panels.

Well I can back Samsung, but Viewsonic LCD's tend to die very quickly, I know you are talking performance, but every time I buy a Viewsonic, it dies in a year to year and a half. They all died from blown capacitors.

Had a viewsonic for almost 4 1/2 years, still hasn't died on me.

Someone told me on DigitalVersus they tested the Viewsonic vs. Samsung
The Viewsonics have a lower input lag
but just by 1frame..is that 1 frame important enough for an FPS gamer to pull the trigger?

Or will the better contrast ratio make me a happy camper?

Depends on if Samsung is trying to pull a fast one and call it "Dynamic" or not...

I have a 52" Samsung TV I love and had a 22" Viewsonic screen (gave it to my dad for his work) they are both fine screens. In the end it comes down to what you want.

Well my computer specs

AMD X4 965 BE (c3)
ASUS Crosshair III Formula
4gb G.Skill Ripjaw 1600
Samsung F3 500gb
CrossFireX XFX 5770s
Corsair H50 (cpu water cooler)

I think I can get on 1920x1200 with Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Specs already released), but I was hoping 1680x1050 would be easier to reach higher frames... and take advantage of 120hz much easier.

So I really am going for either the Samsung SM 2233RZ or Viewsonic 2265XM. I was hoping we had some members here with experience with any of these models.

Please feel free to chime in.

120Hz you probibly want a solid 60 fps, bare minimum 30 solid all the time, with 120fps being ideal, the reason I say this is because there is no point going to a screen with 1 frame every ~8ms, and then have a card giving it a frame every 32. It is a little bit like buying a ferrari, and running it on remoulded tyres :P

This is of course based on ideal circumstances. If you are getting a 120Hz screen for reduction of motion blur, and because they have such a low response time and input lag anyway, then as long as the FPS is smooth then it shouldn't matter. If you are not happy @ 60Hz because you don't think it is fast enough, on a CRT (with in theory 0 input lag), I don't think a card that will give any less than 60 fps will impress you.

My faved (french) hardware reviewing site says: both are very close, the ViewSonic has even better "reactivity" (not just response time, but input lag + image "trail") although the difference is probably impossible to notice. More importantly, it has better colors. All in all both are very similar but the VS gains the edge over the slightly older Samsung, so I'd go for that one.

I'm running on 2x 5770, and I'm hoping for 90fps+ on the new frostbyte engine @1680x1050

Thanks for the information, and I really do appreciate it! Can't wait to buy the monitor, because the Viewsonic is also $50 cheaper!
