They don't sound like GTX580 reference PCBs, from what I've read. They sound like a Gainward-developed PCB that all the Phantom cards share.

edit: Fuck me, £480? Pfft. Lets hope the Palit cards are 'normal' dual slot and less expensive (yes, I know Gainward and Palit are the same company...)

It looks like the Gainward cooling design is more expensive than the Palit. Read in one of the reviews that Palit was charging $20 more than the reference design. Seeing is believing though. I have a new 980x with 3 GTX580 black ops supeclock on order and I put a hold on it. Just waiting to see how much these new 3gb cards are going to be and if they are as cool as they say they're going to be (12C lower than a regular GTX580).

I really hope someone does a review/benchmark soon with these for a surround setup.

Scan has the 3GB Gainward cards for £480 a pop.

Am hoping for 3GB Palits to appear soon, and be more like £400.

I always get amused when I see how much VRAM Surround eats, as for ages a lot of places have been saying "such-and-such card is not powerful enough for these settings"... when I'm fairly sure that if they actually checked VRAM usage, they'd find it's simply running out of memory and chugging because of that.

Pre-ordered 3 of the Palit 2-slot cooler 3GB GTX 580's. These will be stupendous for high resolution surround setups.

Also; just seeing how many people would be interested in water blocks for the new 3GB GTX 580's. It seems the water block manufacturers are on the fence about producing them and it would be nice to show support.

You can fit three of these beasts in your case and on your motherboard? My dual 8800s eat up so much space, there's barely enough room for my soundcard in between the two. I guess this isn't a problem if you don't have any extra addin cards. What type of PSU do you have? I'd probably get 1200W minimum with at least 60A on the 12V rails.

God I wish I had the money to go all out on a new build again. I was thinking about grabbing two of the GTX 560 Ti 2GB cards from Palit and SLI'ing those in the meantime.

with at least 60A on the 12V rails.

Well each card has an 8 pin (150W) and 1 6 pin (75W) PCI-e slot. With also a potential 75W from the PCI-e socket itself, that would give a theoretical 300W for each card, which is around 25A. The 1200W was right, but it wants at least 100A on the 12v rail. I think you just got mixed up with your figures there.

I was probably thinking about just two cards this morning and not three. Regardless it's 10,000 times the amount of electrical charge that can stop a man's heart
