Post subject: | Switching Surround on/off? |
Hello all! My current setup is 3x 1920x1080 27" monitors and while I like to fly my flight sims on the bezel-corrected 5760x1080, I cannot "work" on my PC with Surround on. So I am constantly switching between turning Surround on to play my sims and turnint it off for regular PC use or playing other non-widescreen games. Is there an easier solution to this? I also have to set up my Surround settings (bezel correction, monitor placement) each time I turn Surround on and it's getting to be a pain. One of my friends made me aware of Display Fusion which had "features" that basically meant I could stay in Surround mode all the time and the program would "detect" my monitor limits and I would be able to maximize a program/browser on a per-monitor basis and not the entire Surround resolution. However, I wasn't sure if that was the program I was looking for or if there were others so I just tried it during the demo period. Are there any programs or tricks that could help me out? Any help greatly appreciated!! Thanks! |

Heya ! Try Ctrl + Alt + S (must be activated in the Hotkeys panel of the Surround config tool). It basically puts your side monitors to sleep, and back on again with bezel compensation and everything. I don't know if it "remembers" any extended desktop configuration in off mode though. Personally I never disable Surround. The centered taskbar and windows maximizing on each screen are perfect for my desktop use. As for Surround-unfriendly games, you only have to set them to 1920x1080 and they'll use the center screen, even with Surround enabled... |

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried that but it kills my center and my left monitor; my right monitor stays on. How do I set it so that it keeps the center monitor on and shuts down the side ones? |

Could it be something to do with how your monitors are connected to the card ? With three identical connexions the central monitor in Surround should remain the default display when Suurround is off... |

What do you mean? All my displays are connected via DVI-to-DP adapter cables. |

Hi FSX-er, I know exactly what you're talking about. I started my 3 monitor setup two years ago, and it took me quite a while to find a solution. I tried (and bought) Display Fusion (nice tool), but this is far from solving the problem. To put it short, you can't stay in surround mode if you want to use your PC for work. There's a number of issues (e.g. Team Viewer), so switching between surround (for gaming) and extended mode (for work) is mandatory. Best solution I found so far is this: https://hardforum.com/threads/quick-swi ... d.1590030/ This basically is an AutoHotkey script that triggers the driver- embedded functions, but once configured correctly (via .ini file, instructions are included, no rocket- science really) it switches back and forth smoothly, without any inputs necessary. Warning: this doesn't work if you're using SLI. Give it a shot and report back should u have any questions, I'm glad to spare you the time I've put into this, it's a shame NVidia is offering surround mode without properly supporting it. |
