I would really like to keep my centre monitor at 120hz but add two side ones at 60hz to save some cash. Is this possible with either of the latest cards from both companies?

Sadly this will not work in Eyefinity/surround mode as they create a single large surface, so to windows this appears as 1 monitor, with 1 refresh rate, so all displays require the same refresh rate.

However if you wanted to play a game on a single monitor, you could run 60/120/60hz as monitors 1/2/3, then switch to 60/60/60 when using eyefinity/surround mode.
All ATI series 5xxx and above will drive 3 monitors from 1 card, and only the latest nvidia 680 is able to run 3 monitors off a single card, all previous generation nvidia cards would require an additonal nvidia card in SLI configuration.

Drat, I don't think I can justify buying 2 more 120hz monitors just for a little extra smoothness in games. I suppose it would be dubious if I could get significantly more then 60fps using 3 screens too... Thanks for the info.

alimao, it is ok to have any of those monitor configurations as long as you set them all to 60hz. The issue is that you cannot run the 120hz monitor at 120hz while having the others at a different refresh rate.

That SHOULD work! there might still be the problem that they use different internal timings... but don't know how much of a problem this could be....
but they should work!

It's VERY MUCH Possible. There was a guy on [H]ardForum that running a CRT at 100Hz in the middle of two 60Hz LCD's. All while in Eyefinity.
His Post shows the CRT running at 100Hz.
This Post may also be of interest. 85Hz in the middle, with 60Hz Sides.
This Also.

Full thread of the above.

Enjoy.

Interesting. Well, whether it does or doesn't I'll still be getting the two 60hz monitors so I'll post back here with my success or failure in a few months time.
