Hi guys,

I've been playing Eve Online and Battlefield 2 and 3, but also work a lot on excel and other programs for my masters degree and have been getting a bit tired trying to find data between different excel sheets on a single monitor etc. So i have decided to switch to a triple plp setup

So I've been browsing around for some time now trying to find the best solution for the PLP setup I want, but i figured it might be easier if i just asked the experts ;P

I may have been a bit ambitious wanting at first to see if it was possible to have a 30" 3D monitor flanked by 2 3D portrait monitors with surround running, but judging from various forums etc it doesn't look like the technology is quite there yet. So i've decided to scrap that idea for now and just go with the normal 30" monitor flanked by the other 2.

Does anybody have any idea what would be the best monitors which would fit together and are easily available, and i'm not too worried about the price atm, just want a general idea of whats available etc.

Cheers guys

Current system specs if helps

2x nvidia Geforce GTX 580s
Intel Core i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07 GHz 3.07 GHz
6 GB or Ram

I've got a dell 3008wfp as my center at 2560x1600 (I will put 2x Dell 2007FP on the sides)

I'm very happy with the Dell monitor, at the time I purchased last year there were reports of the Samsungs getting returned faulty, so I chose the Dell and it's a very nice monitor.

Do you have 3GB GTX 580s? Or 1.5GB?
I also have battlefield 3 and it can use over 1GB VRAM with just 1 30" screen.
To put 3 30" screens you might have to turn down the graphics textures to save on VRAM, it's going to be pushing it.

Hey man cheers for the help. I hope you had a good new years party?

I think you hit it spot on as many people seem to have the dell setup, so will probably end up going the same way.

So basically i should be looking at getting a dell 3008wfp and the 2 dell 2007fp? however i'v done a search and many of the dell 2007fp look kinda squarish, is there a widescreen version of the screen or are those the right ones?

also just checked my graphics cards and they run off 1.5GB but i'm hoping this won't be too much of a problem as i'm not going for the 3x30" cause its a bit overkill lol

Well with PLP setups, you're looking to match resolutions and physical dimensions.

A 30" comes at 2560x1600, so you'd need something that is 1600 or 2560 to match up. The obvious cheaper solution is to use something that is 1600.

It just so happens that 20" 1600x1200 monitors fit almost perfectly in portrait on the sides of 30"rs.

1600x1200 is 4:3 (Squarish). If you want widescreens, it would able make the entire screen together more narrow. It's possible to use 1600x900 screens, but at 19" to 20" they are much to tall in portrait.

Here's a list of Monitors that should be able to mesh together:

30" Monitors (Center):
Samsung 305t (S-PVA)
Dell 3007wfp (S-IPS)
--Dell 3007wfpt (S-IPS)
--Dell 3007wfp-hc (S-IPS)
Dell 3008wfp (S-IPS)
Dell u3011 (S-IPS)
HP ZR30w (S-IPS)
Gateway XHD3000 (Don't Recommend) [Dies]
DoubleSight DS-305W (S-IPS)
DoubleSight DS-307W (S-IPS)
Hazro HZ30Wi (S-IPS)
Hazro HZ30WiQ (S-IPS)

20" Monitors (Sides):
Dell 2001fp (S-IPS)
Dell 2007fp (S-IPS or S-PVA) [If you get an IPS 30 get and IPS 20 and vice versa as there is a panel lottery with this model]
HP 2035 (IPS)
HP LP2065 (IPS)
Samsung 204B (TN)
Samsung 204T (S-PVA)
Samsung 214T (S-PVA [21.5"]) (Don't Recommend) [A bit too big]

NOTE: The Dell 2007wfp is not the same as the 200fp. The wfp is a widescreen monitor.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply it was very helpful. i went ahead and got the dell 3011w which pretty awesome, tho i think i'm gonna hold off until i get a bigger desk to get the 2 portraits as its bloody massive.

However there was an slight issue, I wanted to try and run an SLI setup but everytime i plug in the second monitor cable the screen goes to my desktop image ( and freezes) until i unplug the cable. It also stays all black when i restart the computer unless i unplug the second cable.
I have taken a look at the drivers and they are all up to date, and i cant figure out what the issue is.

any ideas?

cheers guys
