Looking at setting up a TH2Go system using something like a 6700, 2GB RAM, 2 x 7900GTX or maybe 2 x 7950GX2.

Still undecided whether to go this route though or go with a large single screen, e.g. 2407 since I'm worried how the performance requirements to drive so many pixels will cope with future games, e.g. how long a lifespan will 2 x 7900s or 2 x 7950s in terms of being able to run future games at acceptable rates at 3 x 1280 x 1024? (forgetting DX10 for now)

Looking mainly at Flight Simulator FSX and FS9 but also BF2, BF2142 etc. what sought of fps do TH2Go users get at BF2, FEAR, FS9 etc. at the moment and with what hardware?

Cheers and hello (1st post :D)

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

BF2 unfortunately does not support WS or TH2G, so that will be a definate "no". But at least with the triplehead you can play on just one monitor. Widescreen users have to either stretch it or play with black borders if they have an nVidia card (an advantage for WS users that they do this).

What I use for estimates in order to get an idea of performance levels is look at benchmarks of games played at 2560x1600. The number of pixels is 2% higher than a TH2G setup. Also worth noting is that due to how many textures get stretched on the wing monitors, I think the performance difference is greater than 2%. So using those benchmarks I estimate a TH2G would perform about equal or better.

As far as GPUs go, my preference is to stay away from Quad setups as the overhead in DX9 games actually results in a slower framerate than XF X1950 or even SLI 7900GT.

If I were buying now, I'd go for dual 7950GTs which are going on sale next week. They're slightly slower than the 7900GTX but I figure they'd overclock where I need them, and besides, the lower cost (2x$300) easily makes up for the slight decrease in performance.

The E6700 don't help as much in gaming, so you could go with a E6400 and get similar performance. But the extra cache will help in other apps like compression and rendering. Something to consider if cost is a factor.

Good luck. Post some benches when you get it running. There needs to be more TH2G benchmarks, IMO. Maybe we can start a thread or new folder or something. (Ibrin, Paradigm, you up for this?)

Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Any recommendations on 19" TFT's? Was looking at 20" (1600x1200) and upscaling but the price difference is a little bit too much.

Was looking at the Samsung 970p and Viewsonic VP930 because they are MVA or IPS I believe as opposed to the TN panels of every other 19" as far as I can see.

Yeah it really depends if you want color accuracy or speed. I'm a gamer so I went these in my sig (the BenQ). I'm very satisfied. As a bonus, the bezels are thre smallest on the market, afaik.

Yet another way EA/Dice dropped the ball.

They haven't even fixed BF2 and they are setting BF 2142 Gold?

*sigh*
