[quote][quote]The game is native 16:9. 16:10, 4:3, 5:4 would be Vert+, while anything higher than 16:9 would be Vert-.

:D

Good luck getting the grading system changed on that one... :nudgenudge

I know I'm being picky about it, but I really can't put enough emphasis on it. I'm not trying to say the user has to like the defaults; They can change it if they want. I just want people to know that if they have a 16:9 screen, they're getting what was intended. No hacks are needed, nothing needs to be changed to enjoy the game. 16:10 users are seeing more vertically, and they're welcome to zoom the game in a little if they want to match the 16:9 display. When you use 4:3 as the default, it implies that widescreen users are seeing less and that they need to fix it so it's right. In reality, it's the 4:3 users that need to fix the game to have it match. ;)

I agree with you, but I think the problems where grading is concerned are two-fold. First, while in most cases it will be obvious I think there is a general idea that having a firm and quantifiable method to decide what the baseline was is perhaps impossible. Second, even though games like Borderlands and BioShock were designed around 16:9 they were designed around 16:9 on a TV 10 feet away, making the FOV feel cropped when using a monitor only 2 feet from your face, resulting in a hacked wider FOV appearing "normal" or at least optimal.

Borderlands is just freaking terrible at default FOV for 16:9, despite likely being designed around that exact ratio.

Don't get me wrong. I completely agree that PC games need a higher FOV because we sit closer. What I'm trying to get at is a baseline of what is intended vs unintended. Games that are designed for 16:9 should have that taken into consideration when grading them. If it's designed for 16:9, why should it get a lower mark just because 4:3 is Vert+? What you are seeing in 16:9 is what's intended and it's correct. It should get a mark down, however, on the fact that it scales vertically anyway. I'm not sure if that makes sense. I guess the key word is intended. If you want to have every aspect-ratio match the intended ratio, then it needs to match 16:9. If the user feels this is too zoomed in, then they may go out of their way to increase it and play it as they see fit. That's entirely up to the user. I just want to establish a baseline of sorts so 16:9 users don't come in here and wonder whether they need to fix a game that was designed for 16:9 in the first place.

I agree with you. I think Cranky is just frustrated with the idea of writing new rules for baseline and such things and we all follow his lead with the grading system.

I added this game to my fixer, but I'm having a hard time figuring out any kind of mathematical scale I can use to get the values right.

I don't see it.

I haven't released it yet. I just meant that I added support for it locally. I won't release it as a plugin until I can figure out what values are needed for each aspect ratio.

i had to use around 860 in my app for 5040x1050 to get it to feel right, but it might have been too high.

I had some issues with the graphics in some places too.

would be great if you got it working with the new patch that supposedly fixes ATI issues ;)

So I guess the previous algorithm I mentioned won't work well since the number is a lot higher than that.

Could someone with 3 x 16:9 find the right value to match it up vertically with 16:9?

If I had the value for the lowest aspect-ratio (5:4) and the highest aspect-ratio (3 x 16:9), then I could just use a scale to fill in everything in between.

The Hack of Racer_S does not work for me because of using The Saboteur's Patch 1.03 Beta :(

So i'm just de- and reinstalling the game to give it a try...

FOV hacks only work for a specfic version of a game... I'm sure Racer_S will update his app when a "real" patch is released ;)
