With regards to micro stuttering, this article is well worth a read.

[#16639]

Thanks for the link, very informative. I've heard of this term plenty of times before but never realized what it was until now. It seems to make sense now, in a nutshell it's when the frame render times significantly differ instead of being more or less the same.

Are there any videos of this demonstrating it out there? I don't think I've ever really noticed it (i'm on a 5970 which should have it right? It's hardware CF).

EDIT: Forgot to say, this seems like it would be super easy to fix in the drivers. Just slow down the faster frames to the speed of the slower frames. Tada, you get smooth fps. I guess it should be an optional mode since for benchmarks they would rather have the higher number (= micro stuttering).

To the OP, I know this may sound like a silly question ... but did you install the crossfire application profiles? (CAP)

What drivers/CAP profiles were you using?

Using crossfire without crossfire application profiles leads to some pretty bad results.

This is a very important subject for me because I have two 5870 2GB cards in cross-finity right now. I get pretty decent and smooth FPS using the latest drivers/profiles.

After reading that "3rd card eliminates micro-stutter" article a few weeks ago, I've already taken steps to get a third 5870 and retrofit my system and add a secondary power supply to accomodate tri-fire 5870 2GB cards.

I play at 5760x1200 resolution (i7-930 @ 3.5ghz, 6 GB 1400mhz RAM). If anyone has any knowledge or experience on the tri-fire micro stutter eyefinity issue, please share :).
