Yep, even an ultra-crappy FX5200 will do 3840x1024. Don't try to game at that resolution, though. :)

Most consumers who purchase nvidia cards though tend to purchase the GeForce series of cards which dont seem to support 3840x1024. Even the lastest and greatest GeForce 8800GTX doesnt support 3840x1024.

Actually thats incorrect, the max resolution of the GeForce Ultra FX5200 is 2048x1536.

Newegg spec listing aside, that can't possibly be true. Paddy or another 8800 owner, please back me up here.

Well you don't have to believe me or newegg for that fact, but here is the specs from the horses mouth... ie: NVIDIA

http://www.nvidia.com/page/8800_tech_specs.html

Excerpt:

Advanced Display Functionality

Dual integrated 400MHz RAMDACs for analog display resolutions up to and including 2048x1536 at 85Hz

i'm running three 22" lcd widescreens off one nvidia 7900gt with TH2G. can have 3840 x 1024 no probs if wanted. So dont understand the quote.
Also rFactor is GREAT!!! and i dont usually play those sort of simms. hardly any noticeable distortion.

I'm not doubting that you can get TH2G to trick your computer into thinking your capable of 3840x1024, I'm just stating that technically most cards, including the 7900GT were not designed for 3840x1024, but yet 2048x1536, as the tech specs clearly state from NVIDIA. Regardless, if you got it working... more power to you. :)

I have 3 widescreen 22" monitors with a TH2G in 3840x1024 and it works great!.
... it may work great ... but doesn't 3840 stretched across the 3 x 22" widescreens look bad... ?

Not at all. The only time it looks bad is when I find games that max out at 3072x768, instead of the full 3840x1024. 3 x 4:3 stretched on to 3 x widescreen looks bad to me ... :?
The whole goal of this site is to try to eliminate 4:3 graphics stretched across widescreens ... even your desktop will be stretched ... :?
If you think it looks OK ... fine ... it's your prerogative ... 8)

also ...

JKeefe and dingles are right ... nVidia 8800 cards have a maximum resolution of 4096x4096 ... it is the same for all the GeForce cards.
If they didn't then the TH2G wouldn't be able to work ...
This is also why we can't get higher triple widescreen resolutions ... the maximum is 4096.

3 x 1440 = 4320
3 x 1680 = 5040
3 x 1920 = 5760

Ati cards don't do the higher resolutions with the TH2G as they have a much lower maximum resolution ... 2560 x 1600 ... so they can't do 3840 wide ... hence the max width of 2400.

Whatever the nVidia Tech Specs page says ... it is no "trick" by the TH2G ... it simply wouldn't work if the cards didn't do the resolution ...
