Hi Guys,

I hope you can help - I have now got 3 x 24" monitors and have followed the guide on the matrox website, by firstly installing the updated firmware and restarting the computer. The next stage was to install teh updated Powerdesk again no problems at all.

Restarted the machine and for some reason the new modes are not available and I am still at 3840 x 1024 - it displays these fine, but my understanding was that the new displays should be there?

Any help is much welcome.

Hey mate - sure info as follows...

Currently running a single GTX 280 overclocked.
OS - Is Vista 64-bit
Driver - am using the latest nvida release 182.08.

I had 3 x 19" monitors and have upgraded and followed the instructions online, do you think the driver is the problem? If so is there a known working driver?

Thanks for the help.

Just to add - it seems currently this res is not available on nvidia cards as the latest drivers do not support it...

So I guess I am a little stuck until the drivers are updated to support it, I just think it's odd how no new resolutions appear. The process was easy enough with no errors and I am currently using 3840 x 1024 without any issues.

Anybody using the same/similar card and is managing to select the res I can't? If so what drivers are you currently using?!

Would really just like a few pointers guys, as I feel it was a waste of time upgrading atm as I can't even utilize the extra space :-(

Ok so I managed to get the display to show as in the 5040 x 1050 but when I select it - my screens kind of screw up. I am using Benq 24" monitors and if they can run at 3840 x 1024 they must be able to run at the higher resolution.

Please help, as now I am completely stuck :/

There are a couple of ways to get Vista, 5040 and latest NV drivers working in the link above. The problem is you either can't select 5040 no matter what and even when you can your monitors go out of range.

Best answer? Go back to XP :)

Hey Mac thanks for the reply - I have moved on a little now and have selected a res of 4320 x 900 and everything is fine.

I downloaded and installed that link and selected the 5040 res and for some reason my middle monitor a Benq FP241W seemed to works fine (my middle screen). However the outer ones Benq G2400WT did not display anything? any ideas on that one?

No sorry that BETA GXM is supposed to STOP the out range errors... sorry worked fine for me in Win7 and Vista (both 64bit). Otherwise I can't get 5040 using the latest drivers, thus I am staying XP for the foreseeable future!

I take it you cleaned out all the old drivers and did a fresh GXM install and run the wizard to select 5040?

Yeah I think the issue is related to something and not my hardware - when i select 5040 I get an error saying non preset mode, as I said middle monitor has adjusted to the new resolution and stays on!

The outer two stay on (green light) but are blank - I guess I will just have to wait for a fix - very annoying considering I just sank alot of money into 2 x 24" Benq monitors :-(

JUST TO ADD - I came across this thread that lists monitors that have potential issues and my two side monitors are listed...

The spec for this monitor says it's refresh rate is from 50 to 80 hertz can anybody confirm whether these are the problem? It runs fine at 4320 x 900??? I am slowly going mad now!!!

As i said above when I select the 5040 x 1050 res my middle Benq monitor (different tot he side ones) displays an image, but the outer two don't but don't go onto stand by!!!

Who added the benq to the list? as I don't know whether I need to send these back if they are NEVER going to work at the res I need :-(

Problem models:
Acer AL2216W
Acer P241wb ... (possibly other Acer models, waiting on further testing)
Acer x193w+
AG Neovo H-W22 (user couldn't do 5040, though it's not entirely clear that a single one won't display 1680@57)
Asus VW223T
Asus VW222U
BenQ G2400WD
Dell 2007WFP
Iiyama E2207WS
Samsung 2233BW (works at 1680x1050@57 Hz for 30 secs, then an OSD message pops up and the screen turns black, no way to circumvent it)
Samsung T220 (osd warning screen pops up and keeps popping up every few minutes)

Just to add I connected up a single display one of my G2400WT and selected the refresh rate to 55 in nvidia control panel and ran the test. I was able to hold 1680 x 1050 at 55 hertz on a single monitor - but when I ask my system to do 5040 - centre screen makes the adjustment, but the two side screens just go blank - they don't go onto standby and the middle monitor says non preset mode!!!

I would just like someone to try and tell me whether it's the monitors so i can send them back. I must admit I am rather annoyed at Matrox clearly 5040 resolution is not working as intended...

Can someone please try and put my out of my misery and either tell me my monitors just won't do what I am asking them, or what the potential issue is???!!!

If the monitor can do 55Hz and 57Hz @1680 it is pretty unlikely to be the monitor. The problem is the mix of the latest NV drivers and Vista. Matrox are aware of the change in NV drivers which stuff 5040, and only 5040, res (thus the BETA GXM for 200series which works for almost everyone).
Roll back your NV driver to the one previous to 177.92, which is 177.41 I think. Note that officially Matrox has this on their compatibility wizard: " 5040x1050 (3x 1680x1050) resolution is only available under Windows XP with Nvidia 200 series GPUs. Under Windows Vista the maximum supported resolution is 4320x900 (3x 1440x900)."
