Is it possible with Eyefinity?

I've tried 2 approaches...

With my original Half-Life CD, I've installed the game and followed the instructions in this thread here [url]http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/10641] and used a hex editor to edit the appropriate values. I can get the game running @ 1920x1200 no problems.

But I can't increase the horizontal resolution above 1920. It won't work. (I'm using my calculator to convert and enter the appropriate hex values).

I've then registered my Half-Life CD key with Steam and downloaded the Steam version of the game. According to WSGF's Essential Game List, Half-Life 1 supports surround gaming natively, but in Steam, if I go options > video, the maximum available resolution is again 1920x1200 even though I have eyefinity enabled.

Am I doing something wrong? Is the Essential Game List wrong about Half-Life 1 or am I misunderstanding the definition of Surround Gaming (3 or more screens)?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Merry Xmas everyone :cheers
Dave.

I think this page explains the method. Should be an .ini edit.

Thanks, but that page just explains how to change to FOV, not the resolution. It states that "Surround resolutions are offered natively in the game", but as I said above, my maximum available resolution in the options menu is 1920x1200, when it should be 5760x1200.

Having spent ages on google trying to find any evidence that it is possible to get Half-Life 1 running across 3 screens, I'm starting to think that it simply isn't. Can't find any info apart from what's on this site, nor any pictures or YouTube videos.

So is the WSGF wiki page on Half-Life 1 wrong about surround support? Or am I missing something?

(Another frustrating thing is that it is practically impossible to find any info searching for half-life without being bombarded by half-life 2 results. Am I the only one who thought that 1 was waaaaaayyyy better than 2  )

Thanks guys,
Dave.

Did you try setting your aspect ratio to 16:9?
They put resolutions that are wider than 4:3, 16:10, or even 16:9 under there.

AFAIK, you need to run the Steam version to get Surround resolutions working.

I can't find any info on how to set my aspect ratio. When I open the game in Steam and go to options > video, there is no aspect ratio setting. Just the Renderer (Software, OpenGL, or D3D), Display Mode (Normal or Widescreen), Resolution, Color Quality, and the option to run the game in a window.

I've tried combinations of various settings but 1920x1200 is the maximum available resolution regardless of what I choose.

Btw, if I uncheck 'Run in a window', my left and right displays clone the middle display. In other words the game plays across all 3 displays. If I leave 'run in a window' checked I don't have this problem.

Any ideas?

Is there anyone out there who can confirm that this classic game is capable of running across 3 monitors? As I said before, I can't find any screenshots of this game running with such a wide aspect ratio.

Cheers guys,
Dave.

I believe I ran into the same problem trying to play natural selection in eyefinity. The conclusion was that I couldnt, the engine simply couldnt.

Can you remember how you set it up? Did you have to edit any of the files or could you just select 5760x1200 in the video options?

I really did try to remember, but I swear being able to achieve it... my only guess is that if it didn't work in the game options, I'd have used the solution in the Master Games List.

I'd check, but I've been forced down to one screen until my Ergotech stand arrives... I Miss my big desk.
