Hi

Today I have XFX GTX280 standard for the the unit and my monitors setup:
Matrox THGO2, 3x22" monitors at resulotion 5040x1050 for fsx!

I maybe will buy a: Asus GeForce ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5 1536MB

The question is: Should I see a massive performance hit (noteble to me) with the GTX580 card instead of the XFX GTX280?

Best Fredrik

A 580 will kick the crap out of a 280.

Hi

Ok, that sound great but can you tell me:

When I have test the GTX560ti instead of GTX280 I did not see any benefit in performance in fsx, ok just little more smoother than with GTX280. That was with i7 920!

Now I want build a new i5 2500K system and I am wodering if the gtx280 will be a bottleneck with the setup:
Matrox THGO2 3x22" at 5080x1050?

I have also seen cards cards with 1,5GB or 3GB and wonder if I need 3GB or it is just enough with 1,5GB memory?

I have read that it will be a memory mapping problem in fssx with a graphiccard who has more that 1,5/2GB memory?

Best Fredrik

You definitely want as much memory on the card as possible. 3GB, no questions about it.

I don't know much more about the recent Nvidia cards as I use AMD, but I do know that regardless of the brand, lots of VRAM is essential so go the 3GB card.

Hi

Okey, but I have read that FSX has problems to mapping with the lot of VRAM like 3GB?

Just to add on to what's already been said...

If you purchase a new nVidia card (such as an EVGA 590 Classified), these cards can do triple display natively without the TH2G, so the extra black box becomes redundant.

And as if it couldn't be said enough... more VRAM is better, especially when it comes to post-processing effects like AA.
