Post subject: | Best FPS with (2) gtx 460 in sli |
Hey guys! So, I am new to the wide screen gaming forum, and wide screen gaming for that matter. I have an intel duo 3.16 mhz cpu, 4gb ddr3 1333 ram, windows vista 64, gtx 460 768mb gpu, 3 Asus vh236h monitors, and a digital th2go. I have noticed that running wings of prey under a resolution of 5040 x 1050 @57hz is having fps problems in high intensive graphics portions of the game. If I drop all my graphics qualities down to low it almost disappears, but not completely. However, I want to run all the settings all on high. If I get another gtx460 768mb card and do sli will those problems go away? And if I have two cards, can I achieve the same 5040 x 1050 resolution with higher fps without the th2go? I am just trying to figure out the cheapest way to achieve seamless gaming with the hardware that I already have. Do I just need a different graphics card all together? Thanks for the help in advance. |

So you got 5040x1050 working after all ? ;) Wings of Prey is a pretty graphics-intensive game altogether, so obviously running it at multi-monitor resolutions will have a performance cost. Getting a second 768 MB card would help, but not that much - 1, 2 or even 3 cards would still be hindered by the low quantity of VRAM. If you like full-on FX and extreme resolutions, you should get cards with at least 1 GB of VRAM. Read Paradigm Shifter's excellent article on the subject: NVIDIA GTX460 in Surround: 1GB vs. 2GB - Featured Review Now, going SLI (preferably with 2-GB 460s :) ) would let you get rid of TripleHead2Go and use Nvidia Surround instead. Main benefits: no custom resolutions & refresh rates to manually set + full support of DX10/11 at 5040x1050. Drawback: next time you wish to upgrade your graphics system, you'll have to buy two cards to be able to game on three monitors. |

The 768MB card was really the wrong card to buy if you wanted to go with any resolution higher than 1080p. |

So....are you saying that purchasing another 768mb GTX460 so that I could go SLI would be a waste of money? How much of a performance increase can I expect with purchasing two gtx480 1gb gpu's over 2 GTX460 768mb in SLI? Is the performance increase worth the extra money? |

GTX480 1.5GB, or GTX460 1GBs? Twin 480s would obviously be a massive increase. 1GB 460s would be a boost, but less of one except at fairly high resolutions. 768MB of VRAM tops out a heck of a lot faster than 1GB at high details and resolutions, though. |

With a single 1gb 5850 I get an average of 40 fps with max settings (no AA) @5916x1080. I would think sli 1 gb 460's would be plenty enough for your resolution. |
