It's been a while now since 5040x1050 was available. Does anyone have the remotest idea of when Directx10 effects will be available at this resolution?

I know it works in vista in DX9 mode (I use LOTRO to do exactly this), but is there any hope in waiting for DX10 to be supported fully?

I don't think so :(
For some reason DX10 doesn't like custom resolutions & ARs to begin with. If and only if this gets fixed (but how? when? by whom?), then there will be hope for the specific problem of 5040 in DX10 to get solved. I'm not holding my breath.

If that's the case, how come DX10 works in 3840x1024? Isn't that a custom resolution? And how come it works in some cases in windowed mode?

It all seems a bit strange to me. Let's face it once XP is phased out, why would anyone buy a TH2go if you can't see all the eye candy at those killer high resolutions?

Isn't this the whole point of owning cuttin edge gaming hardware?

Yeah I can see me being an XP hold out grognard for quite some time. Although the more expensive editions of Win7 have built in virtual machine XP, so maybe that'll work? I know nuffink about virtualisation though.

Not likely, the virtualized machine only gets a hardware virtualization of the CPU and RAM, nothing more. Everything else has to be put through the host machine, since that's all "trivial" stuff, no DirectX acceleration for virtuals, just maybe DirectDraw so the stuff don't lag around the screen at least.

knowing a little bit about how some people work (the current one is "broken" with something, we will bring another one out instead of fixing it), then im not sure it ever will be allowed to run with DX10. DX11 cards are not far off im correct. I wouldnt hold your breath, but then again, i may well be wrong :)

Nope, since you basically don't have to create any TH resolutions by hand. What happens in games is this :
- in DX9 mode, you can play at 5040x1050 and all my custom resolutions are available, be it 1600x900 or 2560x682.
- in DX10 mode, TripleHead res's are available up to 3840x1024 + all my custom resolutions are suddenly unavailable.
I suspect there's a problem with the way DX10 detects available resolutions, so fixing this may also help with WTH.

As for windowed mode, which DX10 titles work in 5040 that way ? :?

It all seems a bit strange to me. Let's face it once XP is phased out, why would anyone buy a TH2go if you can't see all the eye candy at those killer high resolutions?

Not XP... DX9. Good question nonetheless, although Microsoft doesn't have to officially support everything Matrox does ;)

Hey guys,

If anyone has time to try Crysis, Farcry 2, or Gears of War on an ATI card at 4320x900 in DX 10, our test results are showing that it works.

The issue of DX 10 compatibility/incompatibility seems to be very game-dependent and GPU-dependent. We have not had luck getting nVidia boards to run in DX 10 with the titles we've tested, but ATI at 4320x900 seems to work fine for certain titles.

Also, technically speaking, the method of adding widemode support remains the same for 5040x1050 and 4320x900. So if 4320x900 works, 5040x1050 should also function. It's unlikely to be the 5040x1050 mode specifically that is the problem.

Hi Mark. I don't have an ATI card but if the problem is nvidia, game and or gpu dependent then is there a light at the end of the tunnel for dx10 at 5040x1050?

The reason I ask is that I'm so close to selling my two side monitors and buying a large single screen (27") monitor. I wouldn't do this if I could play the latest releases in triple screen dx10 mode...

Is there any particular technical reason why it doesn't work as standard on games in dx10 mode?
