I would assume this'd need at MINIMUM a GTX280 SLI, if not TripleSLI to drive and support properly. If it could be done at all... It's just something I've been dreaming up in my head, it's ATTAINABLE, and that's the BIG selling point. I never dream larger than I can attain, so I don't get my hopes up for something and then be sad when I can't get my grubby little hands on it. Anyone else thought of this too? I assume everyone with a (D)TH2G has thought of this at some point or another, but it begs to ask, has anyone laid out the plans, and looked into the support this kinda endeavor would have as far as games go?

Yup it is possible, but the problem for most of the games will be the 2 monitor thing

TRY IT! That's a 9800GX2, that's a self-sli board. I want PICTURES. I want to SEE that I'm not the only crazy S.O.B. here, and besides, it'd look cool... like those test scenes in HL2 where you see the multiple screens from a fixed camera point.

Span will NOT work on most 9800 GX2s. and may never work for me work for me for the following reasons:

1) The two DVI ports on the 9800 GX2 are connected to separate GPUs Multi monitor SLI will ONLY work on monitors connected to the same GPU.

2) nView is not supported in Vista.

Whoops, I was speaking with an eVga repand he told me this but then I spoke with another Rep and he said that it should be possible. First there are nView options in my control panel and second if the second display is hooked up via the HDMI port it should work perfectly.

The thing with the GX2, I don't think you can span mode with that card because span mode only works via 1 GPU and 2 ports out on a card. You can't span between 2 GPUs or 2 cards. GX2 cards are technically 2 video cards in SLI mode using a single slot in a dual slot cooling configuration. Your best bet is using a 280GTX to do it. Even then that is a lot of pixels to push.

Keep in mind:
XP required for span modes.
Single card, single GPU required for span.
Can only span out of the same card/GPU's ports.
Tri-SLI only works in Vista.

The rules for triple-head are tricky enough. When you add in a second triple-head it makes for even more limits that must be met.

It can be done (has been done :D ).

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/8799

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/6011

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/8799

Issues I found:
1) 1 GPU only (because of required "span" mode only works on ports on a single card) (7950GX2 used only 1 GPU when tested)

2) XP only (because of required "span" mode being absent in Vista drivers)

3) Nvidia (Successfully tested on: 6600GT, 7950GX2, 8800GT, & GTX260) card only (because of required "span" mode - at least I can't get ATI's "stretch" to work for me (tried with a 4870))

This idea keeps popping up. Perhaps I should start a thread with pictures & all or mods could make one of these threads a sticky.
