Hello,

I am new to this forum but have been reading it for 3 days now as I fight with my new TH2G.

I am running Win7 x64, I have a GeForce 8800GTS 512 card, TH2G Digital, 3 Hans-G 22" HI221, and a DCL 20" 20AT for my "2nd" Monitor.

When I first got it all set up, I was on the 190 drivers for my video card, and used the supplied CD to set up the TH2G, of course that didn't work and I found myself on Google, and eventually here reading post after post and getting sick to my stomach the more I read, felt like I had just wasted a ton of cash on this new set up.

I installed the latest firmware patch from the Matrox site, grabbed the newest Powerdesk from same site, and kept plugging on like the good little 20+ year computer geek I am, I don't like loosing when it comes to computer hardware, I fight with it till it does what it is supposed to damn it !!

After hours of fighting with it, I called it a night and went to bed. Day 2 started with me downgrading drivers little by little.. I ended up at 180.48 and a custom resolution set up in the NVidia Control Panel. This finally got me set up with 5040x1050 @ 57hz, but also seriously gimped the hell out Aero on Win7.

More digging here on the forums and I see that the new 191.07 drivers are working for folks, I try.. FAIL... I then say screw it.. I reload Win7 x64 fresh, install 191.07 drivers, Powerdesk SE (found from these forums) and still FAIL... back down to 180.48 drivers I go, works, again gimping Win7 but no need for a Custom Resolution set up...

Needless to say I am not happy with the "gimp" option I have working at the moment, and am most confused how others have it working no problem with almost the same hardware yet others, including myself, are still at the FAIL state.

Any insight would be helpful, I am getting close to returning it all after 3 days of fighting with it. If I upgrade my 8800GTS 512 to a 260 card would that fix it??? to an ATI card (Can't believe I said that, I have been die hard NVidia user for ever)??

I am sure my story is like many others, I just want it to work as intended, with out having to gimp with older drivers.

Thanks

I use win7 x64 with a 8800GTX, so pretty similar setup.

Make sure you have the latest powerdesk from the Matrox site, that's the only one that worked for me.

So latest drivers, latest PowerDesk and latest firmware is the combo that is working for most people these days.

Did you try installing 191.07 directly over this working 180.48 (i.e no uninstall) ? Also make sure you've stopped Powerdesk SE (Matrox GXM utility) from removing modes on every boot.
I can't guarantee a GPU upgrade would help, but I'd try that (being such a compulsive graphics card-buying bitch). Since it's so hard to pinpoint the cause of the problem, anything goes !

Yes, I tried to install the 191.07 over them last night and no go...

One thing I also tried was a post I found here

[url]http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/#comment-]

Everything went smoothly till I hit the custom res set up.. Neither of the 2 res modes ( 5040x1050 & 4320x900) would pass the test. Yet when I uninstalled Powerdesk, then installed 180.48 again right over the 191.07 with out removing it, then installed powerdesk-SE (11.10.500.11) again, no problem, 5040x1050 strait from the wizard with no little red X.

Do not know what to try anymore...

So very Frustrating LOL

I know exactly how you feel. The worst of it being that all seems to work smooth as silk for some ppl. For now I simply gave up on TH in Vista... Sorry I can't be of more help.

Ya, I can't get 5040 working at all anymore... Was working fine, then one day after a standard reboot *bam*, screens gave me "out of range". I've tried everything, TWICE, and for the life of me can't get 5040 without Out Of Range. 4320x900 works on the old 182.50 + beta Powerdesk, but for the life of me I can't get 5040x1050 working at all. I'm just about at the point where as soon as Sammy comes out with their new thin-bezel monitors I'm gonna sell my whole setup and go the Eyefinity route :P

UPDATE:
Ok, well here's something interesting... I just deleted the Custom Modes that the wizard added to Nvidia control panel, and entered 5040x1050 manually. Hit 'Test', and my resolution changes to 5040x1050 even though the pop-up says 'Custom mode test failed'. As long as I don't click the 'OK' button, I can stay in 5040x1050. How gimped is that?

Don't hit Ok then : just close the window, and if you're still in 5040, doing the DeviceInfo.ini edit *should* allow you to keep the res... I don't want to lure you into pointless hope, but you're really close to making it mate :!:

The Nvidia Beta Forceware 195.39 works for me as well.
It requires no restart when installing it on Win7 and (although it changes the res to 3840x1024, which is always notified as the recommended res) I just select the 5040 in resolutions options.

5040x1050 finally works in 7 for me, but DX10 is a no-go.

Can anyone here get 5040 + DX10 ? Please post
1) display driver version
2) full OS name
3) monitor model(s)
4) confirmed 5040+DX10 game(s).

Bump.
Updated to Forceware 196.21, 5040x1050 working in Win7, but not in DX10 games.
It seems DX10 likes 60Hz a LOT (I saw CRT users complain about that on game forums), so I guess the problem is the 59 Hz. My actual res is [email protected], is this too low to be seen as 60Hz by the system and DX10 ? :?

Can anyone playing DX10 games at 5040x1050 post their custom refresh rate please ?
