Well, I was about to make the plunge. I was going to pick up two more Acer AL2216W monitors to go with the one I currently own and a digital triplehead2go.

Seems my Acer AL2216W is on the list of monitors that will not support 5040x1050 @ 57hz :-(

I had a good deal on two more AL2216W's too :-(

I guess I need to sell this acer off and get one that works, maybe one on the list thats already listed as working. I wish the matrox site had their own list too.

Might be a hard plunge to get 3 at once right now, 2 was doable.

Does anyone know from experience how a dual core e6600, 8000GTX, with 2GB of ram system might have run race and flight sims at 5040x1050 @ 57hz? I was assuming I could drop the anti aliasing down a lot to improve any performance since the resolution was so fine.

I was planning on doing an entire PC upgrade at the end of this year, but would have loved to go three screen before then to hold me over.

If anyone has any links that show good deals on monitors from time to time feel free to respond or PM me if its against rules to post them here. Maybe if I get a good enough deal I can get all 3.

I guess I'll go frown in my coffee now.

Hi

In all honesty, you might not be able to run at 5040x1050 anyway. I don't know, but that's a lot of pixels for a 8800.

I just bought 2 more Acer X263Wbi 25.5" monitors, for a total of 3. While I hope they will work at 5040x1050 @ 57hz, I don't know if they really will or not. The specs say they can run 50-60Hz, but I will have to wait until I get the unit to see. But I really don't think I would get the frame rates I would want at 1380x1050x3 anyway. GTX285 here.

I have no doubt that some day I will be able to run them at their native res of 1920x1200 (x3), but I know my current system would not handle that many pixels now, so I'm not worried about the resolution too much at this point. I am going to run them at whatever I can get with the current unit. Then later on after new hardware comes out, I can try higher res. By then I'll have another PC with enough power to run at those higher res.

So if you are really wanting it, get the monitors you planned to get and run at lower res for now. Most likely for good frame rates you would probably have to run at something like 1280x800 at 60Hz (x3) anyway and your monitors should be able to do that just fine.

Since I have never experienced live 3 monitors, I'm wondering if it still looks pretty good at 1280x800 at 60Hz (x3)? I'm not a graphics snob and often turn extra settings off to get a more fluid performance.

I usually run race/flight sims but like to run around in games like CoD and C&C.

However I would not be opposed to running it at a lower resolution to experience 3 screen immersion at the 3840x800 , or whatever the resolution would be for that setup.

I'm sure my current setup of a box on XP with an e6600 dual core, 2GB ram, and 8800GTX card could handle 5040x1050 anyway. I'm not sure it could handle 3840x800 for all I know. It works fine with most things I run at 1680x1050.

I do plan on upgrading to a new rig at the end of 2009, but for now I was looking into this 3 screen setup since I had access to two more similiar monitors.

Seems like a contradiction there?
I had SLI 8800GTXs before (like a year ago) and swapped them over to a single GTX280. The 8800s in SLI were becoming subpar in Triplehead. A single 8800 is pretty unsuitable for many games to play in the way they were designed (ie turning things down or off is effectively a workaround to a system limitation) in 1680x1050, let alone 3times that.
