The BenQ W1080ST is coming in the first quarter of 2013. It's MSRP is only $1300.

Mini review: http://www.techreleased.com/big-screen-3d-fun-with-benqs-projectors/

It's the first 1080p projector with SHORT THROW!! Finally! There are a few options for 720p lately (BenQ 1070, Optoma GT750e, etc).

I will try this projector x 2 (or 3) if someone can give me some ideas on why 2 is better than 3...right now I'm only interested in how racing and flight simulations work.

Thanks!

I would say that 3 would be better than 2. I think people are doing 2 because of the cost savings. 3 would give you a bigger screen, bigger resolution and better focus as you've got less stretching.

However, 2 would save you the cost of 1 of the PJ's, you'd also get away with 1 gfx card rather than needing 2 (although with Eyefinity you may get 3 PJ's on one card?). So if you need 1 gfx card then you don't need a new motherboard that'll do SLI etc, so that's more saving.

I don't know for sure, but I think that's mostly accurate and I think you'd do the whole thing for about half the price using 2 PJ's rather than 3.

W1080ST: the world’s first Full HD short throw video projector
As the world’s first Full HD short throw video projector, BenQ’s W1080ST creates a 65.7” image when positioned at a distance of just one meter, preventing image obstruction and shadows on the screen which is ideal in any situation, but particularly important when engaging in gaming.

and up to 300"!

but you can't use it from backside?

IMHO a projecto setup should be 3x1P! why well I've tought about flight and space Sims!
I've been playing a lot of games on my 16:9 eyefinity setup. but I often miss the hight of my old 1680x1050 monitor!
espcially when flying. you would profit from more hight. and the width isn't really a problem. altough 1920x1200 would be better....
IMHO 1920x1660 (that is 4:3 rigth?) would make an awesom triple projector setup!

I mean why would I need 5760x1080 pixel on a 3x40" screen? I just need to sit further away from the screen! or else the fov would mess up.

Maybe for USA then, Optoam HD86ST not available here. :rockout:

I will not mount projector behind screen, do you only do this so you don't have audio problem with PJ being too loud?

I'm debating doing this vs 5 portrait projetors, but I never did 3 projectors eyefinity even so I don't know what to do - just read what your guys input is.

I'd start with 2 or 3, you can always add more as you go on. Then you'll get some experience and see what you look and start experimenting. You'll also get an idea how powerful you'll need to make the pc to run 5 for example.

Putting the PJ behind the screen would be so that you can get close to the screen without your body casting a shadow on the screen I'd say.
