I want to buy a Dell M6800 Laptop workstation. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/ ... spx?oc=s... It has following Ports : http://laptop-computer-planet.com/blog/ ... 18/dells... (1) Can someone tell me how much bandwidth does 54 mm Express Card slot put out ? (2) Also how many lanes of PCIe that slot has ? ( x1, x4, x8, x16 ) (3) How do I find out above info ? (4) Can I connect following PCIe Expansion box in it's Express Card slot ? http://www.netstor.com.tw/_03/03_02.php?OTc= (5) If yes, how much bandwidth each slot of that box would receive ? Many Thanks |

I noticed you also posted here http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=34005622 georgetok wrote: (1) Can someone tell me how much bandwidth does 54 mm Express Card slot put out ? There are 2 ExpressCard versions (1.2 and 2.0) each with 2 running modes (PCI-E 1x lane or USB2.0), below is the bandwidth for each of these:- ExpressCard 1.2 USB 2.0 mode (480 Mbit/s) ExpressCard 1.2 PCI Express mode (2,500 Mbit/s) ExpressCard 2.0 USB 3.0 mode (4,800 Mbit/s) ExpressCard 2.0 PCI Express mode (5,000 Mbit/s) source It is not clear on the Dell website which version of ExpressCard Slot in the laptop, the lack of "ExpressCard2.0" in any of the documentation makes me think it is version 1.2 in the laptop. Note: ExpressCard 2.0 georgetok wrote: (2) Also how many lanes of PCIe that slot has ? ( x1, x4, x8, x16 ) x1 lanegeorgetok wrote: (3) How do I find out above info ? This is a good starting point - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard georgetok wrote: (4) Can I connect following PCIe Expansion box in it's Express Card slot ? http://www.netstor.com.tw/_03/03_02.php?OTc= Yes although you will only get 2.5Gbit/s - 5Gbit/s if the laptop supports ExpressCard2.0. georgetok wrote: (5) If yes, how much bandwidth each slot of that box would receive ? Many Thanks The external box supports 20 lanes, as such, if all lanes are in use, then each lane would have 2.5Gbit/s / 20 = 125Mbit/s 5Gbit/s / 20 = 250Mbit/s |

Delphium, Excellent answers. Very kind of you. One more question. I want to plug in 3 AMD FirePro 2460 Low profile Video Cards in that box. Each card has 4 mini DP slots & thus can run 4 Monitors. So 3 card can run 12 Monitors. http://www.amd.com/us/products/workstat ... iremv.aspx I am right now running 12 Dell U2412M ( 24 inch 1920x1200 ) monitors using 3 of above FirePro 2460 Video cards on my Dell T-7500 workstation. Question is : Would I be able to run these 12 monitors using the Nestor box & same 3 FirePro 2460 Cards from Dell M6800 Laptop ? ( It is a very new model so must have PCIe 2.0, I think ) I am not going to run any games or videos from Laptop. Just stock market charts & those charts are not very graphic intensive. Reason for using Laptop is to carry personal research on the road for demo purpose where they have the monitors setup. I don't have to carry the monitors. Just the Laptop & Nestor box. Thank You |
