I want to have three screens for the view out of the cockpit window, one ( the touch ) for the dashboard.

After trying several adapters and Matrox' TH2Go, I decided that what it needs is two graphics adapters. I thought it would be easy, as the adapters have 2 DVI and 1 DP each. I connected my 4 LCD monitors to the DVI ports... all screens are lit and show colour. I can drag a separate window to each of the screens. BUT I cannot open ONE window over three screens! I have tried everything that I could think of...

Can anyone help me? What do I need hard- and software-wise?

Eyefinity never shows the option to group 3 X 1, it always shows 2 X 1! When I tried 2 groups of 2, the window could not be opened across more than the two desktops attached to one adapter...

I have trolled all kinds of FSX fora but found no help:

You need to ensure the 3 monitors you wish to group are all connected to the same graphics card.
In this case you would need to connect the first 2 monitors via the DVI, then the 3rd monitor via DP to DVI using an "active displayport to dvi" adaptor, you cannot create a group of monitors across multiple cards.

This will then allow you to group the 3 monitors.
