Post subject: | Cannot get Eyefinity to work past 3 monitors |
I have been attempting to get this problem resolved off and on for quite some time now. Recently I upgraded 2 of my monitors so that all of them are displayport monitors. I have 4 x NEC EA231WMi and 2 x NEC E231W. They are all connected directly via mini-DP to DP cables (no adapters are used). These are simply single cables running directly from the video card to the monitor. Yet, I can only get up to 3 monitors to run in Eyefinity. I have been successful in getting Eyefinity to run in 3x1 configs on either the upper or lower rows (I have the monitors setup in a 3x2) array. I need assistance in getting all 6 screens running in a 3x2 config. I am at such a loss of how to get this to work. Nothing I have tried in the past seems to have worked. I have tried the 10.10 drivers and the most recent 11.6 drivers. No luck! Every time I try to setup a 3x2 setup I see either nothing happen, or the display will change to a different monitor, but with nothing else changed. Is it possible that the cables are bad? Tell me if these are not correct: I have 3 x 6ft 32AWG DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort Cable - White (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606&p_id=6007&seq=1&format=2) and 3 x 10FT 32AWG DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort Cable (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606&p_id=6008&seq=1&format=2). Are they too long? Or are the specs just wrong? If so, what do I need? My system info is as follows: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601 Other OS Description Not Available OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name System System Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. System Model GA-790XTA-UD4 System Type x64-based PC Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor, 3400 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) BIOS Version/Date Award Software International, Inc. :welcome Hi, for what you are asking to do is only avaiable with the ATI 5870 E6 2GB graphics card. You have listed a lot of info, but have missed the crucial item, the gfx card, so could you please confirm what gfx card you are using? |

When you go from 3x1 on the upper and lower rows, do you switch cables or ports on the card? If I can borrow 3 more monitors from somewhere, I can try doing the setup on my 5870 E6. |

I can't get any monitors to try myself. :( Did this problem happen pre-6 display port monitors in your setup? I wonder (if you have the adapter) if you tried with a VGA connection if it would work, just as a test. That is all I can really think of right now. Just shooting out ideas. =/ |

Before creating the group, clone all 6 displays then make the group. |

I thought I knew how to setup a group, but what do you mean by " clone all 6 displays"? |

1. Connect all 6 displays. 2. Disable Eyefinity (BTW 11.6 Drivers Seem to work very well) 3. Go to Desktop Management --Creating and Arranging Desktops 4. Under "Please select a display." Right click each monitor and hit duplicate. (All monitors should now be displaying the same image.) 5. Then go to AMD Eyefinity Multi-Diplay --Create Eyefinity Display Group. 6. Setup a 3x2 and off you go. |

I was unable to clone all 6 displays so I could not make a group. Every attempt at cloning got me to 5 and usually 4 displays that were cloned before problems arose. Problems such as the display making no changes or reverting to a single display enabled. This happened when I had all 6 monitors directly connected with mini-DP to DP cables and it also happened with 4 monitors connected with mini-DP to DP cables, and 1 with a mini-DP to DVI adapter (supplied by MSI with the card) connecting a DVI cable to one monitor, and a mini-DP to DP adapter (supplied by MSI with the card) connecting to a DP cable. Not sure how to proceed from here. |
