Post subject:  Mini Display port to HDMI question

I have 3 monitors and none with display port. I have a 5970 toxic and am running two of the monitors from the DVI ports at the back.
I am of the udnerstanding that i need a mini display port to active DVI adaptor in order to get a 3rd working for eyefinity.
I have been looking at getting one these adaptors however i can't find an active HDMI cable, will a minidisplay port to hdmi cable work or is DVI essential?

As long as you use an active mini DP to DVI convertor, any old DVD > HDMI cable or adaptor should work, the "active" requirement is that that part of the card needs to be operational in order to allow 3 screens to work.

I'm still confused, does that mean i need to run a minidisplay to dvi adaptor then a hdmi adaptor off that?

You need an active adaptor, so you need something like the 2nd one. However, you can get a DVI > HDMI cable to plug into the active adaptor and that will still work.

This + 1

(Active)Mini DP-> DVI connected to DVI -> HDMI connected to Monitor
