Hi all,

I'm currently thinking about a new setup for gaming containing 3x Dell U2410 wich will result in a 5700x1200 or 3600x1900 res. I wanted to play Aion on full details, full aa ... (cry engine) on that resolution, but I'm a litte bit afraid of Frame Dropping, because I've tweaked Aion a litte bit (in fact of details) and currenty running with 50fps on 1900x1200 and more or less 20 fps within towns and even much less on sieges if i didn't hide the player characters.
I'Ve a 1GB 5870 from XFX. I've learned some days ago evenif i build in a 2gb card and CF with the 5870 I ounly could use 1GB.

So what shall i do? buy a 6970 with 2GB cf with 5870 and hope that the framedropping won't be that high or will a replacement of the 5870 with a 6970 will do the same due to 2gb vram? or shall I use 2x6970 (what will be the worst case due to budget^^) or are there any other ideas regarding this setup and result (playing in a high-res with frames >30 even in towns or on siege?

I have no particular insight with Aion, but if you're worried about fps, the best thing to do is to push your CPU to 4ghz+ if possible. Most modern gpus in the last couple of years get significantly CPU bottlenecked if not running 4ghz or more.

i have a single 5850 and it runs aion on full settings at 5916x1080 with ease. just make sure to turn aa off.

I've tried or tweak a little bit with the system.ovf (i'm not quiet sure about the name now) have you tried that or are you using the normal ingame settings?

I have a 6970 and I can only use AA if I play on single monitor at 1920 x 1080 for most good games. The games I have tried include Bad Company 2, Just Cause 2, Crysis, Metro 2033, STALKER: Call of Pripyat. Although I don't have AION, I believe that these games I have listed are similar to AION in the amount of graphical detail and strain on a PC that they would cause. If I use no AA I get 40 - 50s FPS in these games. If I use AA when using 5940 x 1080 resolution I get fps below 30 which I consider unplayable.

I have 8 gigs DDR3 at 1600, phenom II x6 1090T 3.2ghz, Sapphire 6970.

Originally I had a 5850 which I returned for a 5870 which I then returned for a 6970. During this process, I had the 5850 and the 5870 at the same time and tried using those in CF (It would be the equivalent of having 2 5850s). Even when using Crossfire 5850s, my frames were just hitting the upper 50s range for Just Cause 2, Crysis, and Metro2033 WITHOUT AA. I could use AA in BC2, Stalker and have 50s FPS tho. The 5870 is more powerful than the 5850 so if you got another 5870 you might be alright however you would still only have 1 gig of VRAM. It is a 2gig 5870 for 279 which is 100 cheaper than the 6970 so you could buy 2 of these for xfire and sell your current 1 gig 5870. Or get 2 6950s or 6970s lol.

Bottom line is that you won't be able to play Aion with AA at that high resolution with 1 card (maybe a 580? lol)

It was never my intention to play Aion in that resolution with 1 card. I'm just looking for options, to play with CF and that resolution (and hopefully with AA).
so now I see 3 options:
1) buy a second 5870 and hoping that it will fit with 1gb
2) buy two 5870 with 2 Gb and maybe still hoping that it will fit with aa
3) buy 2 6950/6970 and might be sure to run in that resoplution and aa

correct?
