Post subject: | GPUs for 4960x1600 and mixed monitor rotations |
Hi everyone, I want to set up a Dell 3008WFP 30" 2560x1600 flat panel flanked by two Samsung 213T 1200x1600 LCD's, with the outside "wings" rotated by 90 degrees. This would give me a 4960x1600 gaming panorama. My question is what kind of video cards should I use, and does ATI support mixing non-rotated and rotated displays? Would all those pixels finally squeeze some decent scaling out of two 5970's in quad-CrossfireX, or would the second pair of GPU's be a waste of money? Note the Dell has a DisplayPort; the two older LCD's each have DVI. I haven't bought the Dell yet and am open to a substitute middle monitor if something else would make more sense. All this said.. does anyone think I should wait until nVidia releases their Fermi and better multi-monitor gaming support, then scrap the old LCD's, get some 120Hz LCD's and set up a gigantic 3dVision system instead? Input and advice appreciated! |

You can use a single 5000-series card and SoftTH to do this correctly. Thread: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=17276 |

Well having been the author and pioneer of the 4960x1600 thread there I can tell you that SoftTH is a subpar way of three screening. I have my 30" monitor on the floor collecting dust and am running three dell 20.1 1600x1200s for the time being because there are too many issues with SoftTH. From dismal performance to lagging screens, it just cannot compete with eyefinity. I would tell you to just go mono gaming on a 30" or buy three 30"s if you want multi screen gaming. I was hoping that they would offer different panel rotations by now but they dont even have bezel management yet so PLP setups are a complete waste of time and money. While I believe 4960x1600 is the best eyefinity setup because bezels are such a non issue with the massive center monitor, my ultimate advice is to go for three dell U2410s and call it a day because plp aint happining. |
