Post subject:  2x5870 and smooth eyefinity gaming??!!!

I've decided to pass on eyefinity lately and I've been having some issues.

My system specs is as follows:
i7 920 D0 4.2ghz
Gigabyte UD7
6GB XMS3
5870 crossfire (9.12 Hotfix)
Coolermaster 1000w psu
Intel X25M
3x23" LG w2361v (5760x1080)
win 7 ultimate x64

The issue that I've been dealing with is the non smooth gaming when enabling crossfire (2x5870). For example when I run dirt2 on single 5870 at 5760x1080 (no AA) I get about 40fps with very smooth movement. When I enable cf, I get about 60-70fps but it's not at all smooth. Enabling/disabling vsync doesn't help either.

This happens to all of my games like fc2, mw2 and shift. (High fps, over 60-70 but not smooth). I disable cf and everything run absolutely smooth at 50-60fps.

Another problem is in batman when with cf enabled I get 15fps less. WTH!!!!

All games run like a charm on single display with no issues.

Any suggestions?

it's posts like this that keep me from getting another 5870... I have heard from people who say games work fine, and some say there is this stutter (non smooth) quality to the motion while cf and eyefinity are both enabled.. or just plain bad performance.. have you tried the new 10.1 drivers? it's for sure worth a shot.. please let me know if anything is improved as I am eager to get a little more performance for my 5760x1080 gaming but only if it's going to improve my eyefinity gaming experience.. not detract from it.

Just to muddy the waters, I'm running 2 x 5850's and they're smooth as butter in DiRT2 (and others). I'm running 9.12 hotfix...too many problems reported with 10.1 to risk it when I have a mostly problem-free PC at the moment :). Your system is significantly better than mine, so there must be a problem somewhere (to state the obvious!). Have you tried reinstalling the hotfix drivers? I had choppy problems & that fixed it.

that's a good start also.. try cleaning the drivers out first with Driver Sweeper and then re-install.

I have read from many places this is not needed with ATI cards. It was mentioned that ATI CCC takes care of all the removing and can be installed on top of each other.

Ahh.. good to know.. I guess being a long time Nvidia user it's just an old habit.. thanks for the heads up.

Tried everything but nothing helped! Also tried the crappy 10.1 but make the 2nd 5870 unusable in eyefinity... (lot of other betas)

I got really pissed with ATI, and I obviously can't wait the useless ATI driver department for 2-3 months to fix this issue.

So I decided to sell my two monitors and the ef adapter. I hate being a beta tester!

I don't blame the 5870s. I love this cards but it seems that a LOT of work has to be done to fix all eyefinity issues. I might move to eyefinity again in future but not now.

ugh.. well, did you try just disabling eyefinity and using CF on a single display? Just wondering if the issue was specific to eyefinity..
