Hi all,

I will be purchasing withing the next couple of weeks a 5870 (or 2 or gtx400 series depending on benchmarks) to use in eyefinity/nVidia surround with 3 x 24inch monitors.

I am looking at dell 2408 and 2407 models, I know that one of them must be the 2408 due to need of display port. What I can't make my mind up is do I get 3 matching 2408's or will it look alright with 2407's as the side monitors.

I was wondering if anyone here has this setup and can comment on how it looks with the mismatched monitors in terms of colour reproduction and if the actual monitor bezels look different?

Also I've read up on the benchmarks here but I can't find too much on how games run in 3x1920x1200, Can anyone else comment here on how this runs with their 5870 (Crossfire or single)?

Thanks for any help
Adrian

What monitor do you currently have? If possible, don't mix them up.

Hi,

I have a 28inch Viewsonic (27.5 viewable), I ended up goin to see a couple of 24inch screens and thought they were a bit of a downgrade in terms of overall size compared to the 28 so I went with 2 27inch dell's 2709w

I currently run 2x 2408WFP and 1 2407WFP in Eyefinity. Works great. The 2407 looks nearly identical (the only different is the menu buttons). The 2408's were $500 apiece and the 2407 was 225 used. I'd reccomend going with 1 2408 for the middle and the 2 2407's for the sides.

The 2407 is on the left. Can you see the difference?

They're powered by a HD5850. Games I've tried include:
GRID
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
Mirror's Edge
Civilization 4
TF2, L4D2, HL2, etc (all source games)
NFS:S
Stalker: CoP
The Witcher

All of these game had playable framerates at max settings with v-sync on. GRID is simply amazing at 5760x1200 maxed out.

legoman,

Great setup looks fantastic, I did ened up taking the plunge and spending a bit more to get dell 27's hopefully they will look alright with my 28 viewsonic (dell's will be on the left and right). If I don't like it I will have to get another 27 dell to match and sell off this 28.

Thanks for the info regarding the games, I used to run a TH2G with a 4870x2 running 3x1680x1050 and most games would run well but i did have to run some at 3x1440x900 to get good frames (crysis had to be at 3x1280x800). My main concern is that a res of 3x1920x1200 will quickly run out of frame buffer with a 5850/5870 only having 1gb of vram. I understand that atm you get a middle res (will be 3x1680x1050) with eyefinity but even that I think may be too high for some games.

Has ATI said they willl be allowing custom resolutions in the future? I haven't got new video cards yet as i'm still waiting on the gtx 400 series benchmarks first as I see these cards have 1.2 and 1.5gb of vram.
