tried new cable, still the dp to vga is flickering above 1440x900

Okay that's weird. What brand adapter are you using?

I dunno, I'd say go for Accell, Monoprice, or monster at this point. Something with a known brand would probably work. Monoprice is $20 and it's what i use. It does work.

Just wanted to quickly share my experiences so far as a new eyefinity user. This weekend I setup 3 x 22" (1920x1080 res) acer monitors coming off a radeon 5870. 2 are running off dvi and one is running the HP displayport to vga adapter. All three monitors function well with this setup in both eyefinity mode and extended mode. There is no monitor flicker or signal problems while playing games or doing productivity tasks.

The only 2 small issues I have come across is that when powering the pc down, the monitor attached to the displayport/vga adapter will not go into power save like the other 2. It comes up with a cable disconnected error. This is no big deal as it just means that i have to power off that monitor when the pc is off. The other thing I find is that with profiles and hotkeys I can switch to Eyefinity mode everytime with one selection however switching back to extended profile my monitors are out of order the first switch but then all I have to do is switch to extended a second time and it gets the monitors in the correct order.

The actual gaming experience in eyefinity mode is awesome. Reviews and youtube vids just can't do this technology justice. Playing Battlefield BC2 with humongous field of view is the most immersive gaming experience I have ever had. Playing WoW and Lotro is also superb. I have tried 3d gaming with active shutter glasses
and that has got nothing on the immersion of surround gaming. I am very pleased with eyefinity and would encourage anyone sitting on the fence to take the leap and if you don't have a native displayport monitor the HP displayport/vga adapter does the job very well (only costs around 20 bucks).

Hi Pete it would be worth grabbing another dvi cable and running both non adapter monitors on dvi, rather than one on hdmi. Several people, myself included, have had success with 2 x dvi plus 1 x dp-vga adapter.

I'd like to confirm that the HP DP->VGA adaptor is working great with my 5850 VaporX and 3 Dell 2007wfps - 2 hours and no flickering or other issues. Just having a few issues with CCC, profiles and monitor arrangement.

I think those are unavoidable, I have an extended desktop profile and an eyefinity one, both bound to hotkeys (ALT + Z, ALT +X). In order to get the extended desktop with screens arranged properly all I gotta do is hit my hotkey for extended a 2nd time. It never arranges them properly the first time.

I currently have

Asus 26 inch (DVI)
Dell 23 inch (DVI)
Asus 24 inch (?) (Just ordered)

So if I order the Accell UltraAV B101B-003B Display Port with VGA Active Adapter, I should be able to run a 3 screen setup, right? I have a 5850.
