Great stuff.

The only problem I can see with this is that some games may force 60hz, so using the .inf that has only 120hz won't let that happen.

Also, not having control from within CCC would frustrate me to tears.

Good info though.

Hi.

I am about to buy an AMD 6xxx card to run eyefinity.
I already have a Samsung 2233rz, and want to know if I buy 2 more, will i be able to use those in 120hz.

Seens linke the 6xxx cards have just one Dual DVI output, so i should use 2 Displayport addapters (the apple one) to get all on 120hz?

Thanks.

Ive now got the Accell AMD recommended adapter doing 120Hz. (the Dual DVI higher end model) I bought it before I saw the Apple adapter recommendation on here. Just selected the resolution and frame-rate in Win7 64.
Doesnt want to work in Ati CCC. Ive had it mis recognize the display port adapter monitor once or twice (happens more often with the Apple adapter for some reason, the monitor goes to 640x480 and the screen order gets messed up) and trying to fix things in Catalyst Control Centre is problematic, (impossible for me) but go into Win7 Screen Resolution by right clicking the desktop and you can get it to redetect and one second later its all as it was happy at 5040x1050 at 120Hz.

As I say, it works great at 120Hz in iRacing at 5040 x 1050. Ive not tested any other apps/games.

You guys that have made your own EIDE or whatever masks etc are strange clever and patient creatures! Big thumbs up!

So, how did you go about creating the monitor "group" for iRacing?

I had to make an account just because of this thread.

I know some people have had good luck with the apple adapter working with 120hz. Has anyone checked out the latest adapter from mono price? Here is the link:

Here is the aditional adapter to make it work with regular display port:

ok ... With LOTS of tech frigging around I've got my: -

3 x 22" Samsung 2233RZ Eyefinity all running @120hz.

2xDVI, 1xMiniDP (the Apple one ... IT DOES WORK, and at 120hz .... don't bother with anything else because they don't support > 60hz as far as I can tell)

But: -

I had to create my own monitor driver using Pheonix and Moninfo to ONLY offer 120hz and 1680x1050.

iZ3D runs fantastic ..... a nice set of high quality Anaglyph glasses cost me $5.

SO ..........................

Stereo 3D & Eyefinity using DVI and MiniDP ....

NOTE: - I think I'm one of the very few on the planet to have achieved this .... go me :-)

I have just bought a HP EliteBook with a NV Quadro FX880M and I have to drive a Samsung 2233RZ at 1680x1050 120Hz for 3D.
I have only the DisplayPort on the laptop side, and I see that Apple MiniDP runs well, but I don't have a MiniDP, only a "regular" DP. Can you suggest me any adaptor for this ?

Thanks,

Aldo

Hi everyone, I have just joined this forum after days of trolling through pages & pages of useless info and it looks like this is the closest i've come to a solution to my problem, so i hope someone can help :bowdown
When I upgraded my system in January, about the only thing I didn't upgrade was my monitor. The sales guy pointed me towards my ATI HD6850 as a new graphics card which at the time was all well and good, however I am now able to afford a monitor upgrade. I've had my LG for around 3 years now and I have been sooo annoyed by RTC artifacts basically since i bought it! Grrr.
Now I know that RTC artifacts are pretty much a given on all TN panels, so you can imagine my delight when I stumbled accross a review on X-bit-labs of the Samsung 2233RZ and read that because of the 120Hz refresh rate, gone are the days of RTC artifacts! I did some further digging into this claim and confirmed it from a couple of other sources.
Here's my problem... To output a true refresh rate of 120Hz you need to have a dual DVI output on your graphics card. In their infinate wisdom ATI have decided to only put a single DVI output on thier new cards (I'm sure you've heard this story b4) so I cannot output 120 Hz. Dose this mean I'm screwed and I should have bought a new Nvidea GTX460 instead of the ATI? (my 8800GTX blew a fuse) There is a chance that the solution could be to use the HDMI 1.4 as it is supposed to support 120Hz, however I am finding it very hard to varify this and believe me I've tried, also the Samsung has no HDMI input so unless it would still work with an HDMI-DVI converter that theory is out the window anyway!
I don't know if there is any way of outputting 120Hz from my GPU to the Samsung but would really appreciate any help...
:rockout

one of the dvi should be dual that should give u 120hz no problem.
the other single.
displayport works also but requires adapter.

Thanks Flopper

I went with the Viewsonic VX2268WM in the end, and it's a great little screen :) Before I unpacked it when it was delivered I did a final check online to see if it would work with the Apple Adapter like the Samsung and found out that my card does indeeed have a Dual Link DVI output, so all is good in the world again.

There is a slight sting in it's tail though! ATI cards Dual Link DVI ports ONLY SUPPORT 120Hz@1680x1050 (or lower), at least the HD6800 series. Although most 1920x1080p displays and above come with an HDMI port which carries the 120Hz so anyone wanting 120Hz at those resolutions won't have any problems.

Just to make it clear I was only looking for information about running A SINGLE monitor @120Hz and this thread is mainly about people lookig to run multi screens@120Hz using Eyefinity, for which you will need an active Mini Displayport to Dual Link DVI Adapter, like the one from Apple.
