OK I think I have all the hardware I need to get eyefinity working and have fiddled with it a bit but with no solid success yet.

I have an OEM ATI HD5850 1Gb DDR5 725Mhz 1000Mhz w/No Overclock but I generally run msi afterburner to manage the fan and track FPS and temp.

I have the following monitors:
SOYO 24in Topaz S 1920x1200 dvi and vga (dvi connected, as center primary)
ACER 22in x223w 1680x1050 dvi and vga (dvi connected)
ACER 22in v223w 1680x1050 dvi and vga (dp-vga connected)

I have the monoprice 5135 dp-vga adapter

My machine has 2hdds with XP on one and Win 7 on the other for a dual boot setup.

I have Catalyst 10.7 with the latest drivers as of 7/26/2010.

To complicate matters I have a KVM switch on the vga line so I can swap one 22 monitor with a 2nd PC. Ideally I would like to keep this ability but I'm guessing having the dp-vga line on the kvm switch might just be asking too much.

I want to play COD:MW2 and Dirt2 in eyefinity 5040 x 1050.

A few times I have gotten as far as getting all three monitors recognized and displayed as a group (each in the individual native resolution) but I do not get an option for any resolution greater than 1920x1200 for the 3x1. Often the dp-vga one comes up as 640x480 only and I get the signal lost message oocasionally.

My next step is to remove the kvm and start swapping which monitor is connected to what and hopefully find something that works.

Any experienced advice would be awesome.

I got it working! I am able to use the kvm switch still too!, but I switched the dp-vga to the center 24" monitor. I think that was the key that I was missing before. Tried it out with MW2 and it seemed to work pretty well with widescreenfix beta 2.0. So far no flickering or wierd issues. Within windows with eyenity activaterd I can't get the resolution i wanted but there's really no need if I can just setup some hotkeys to switch back and forth between gaming and productivity.

It sounds like it's not 100% certainty though - imagine if you had all three screens the same 19", and they all gave that error. That would have been frustrating.

I actually have said configuration, same adapter, 3x 19" screens, works just fine, XD

Hi guys, I've just bought 3 x BenQ G2420HDBL 24" monitors. I've got the Sapphire DP -> VGA active adapter for €23. DVI active adapter is out of stock here and price is €85, so I have gone the analog route and I can't tell the difference comparing it to the other two monitors connected via DVI. This is the adapter I've got.

So far so good, I still haven't played for many hours but setup went smooth as butter. I created EyeFinity group, added all monitors, bezel compensation worked out of the box (it looks like it Catalyst Control Center knew the bezel size of my monitors and autoadjusted perfectly) and tried a couple of games with no problems.

Welcome to the "working" group. ;)

There are many of us who have stated that we cannot see any difference in IQ between our DVI connected vs. the DP->VGA adapter connected screens. Glad you got yours working. Enjoy!

For gaming you won't see a difference. For reading text the difference is very obvious. Letters have color smear when using VGA.

Anywho, picking up a 3rd monitor tomorrow and I just ordered the Sapphire VGA adapter.

2 dell 2007wfp (S-IPS) and 1 dell 2209wa (E-IPS). I'll go with 3 of the 2007's when I find another seller.

I really do wish you could see my own setup here. There is NO COLOR SMEAR on my VGA connected screen...PERIOD! I can move this page back and forth between the DVI screens and the VGA screen and there is NO DIFFERENCE. Letters are clean and crisp and clear as they are on the DVI connected screens.

Why can't you accept that we know what we are seeing and talking about?

Maybe it depends on the monitor and videocard.

On my dell 2007wfp and 2209wa the vga has smear on fine text. Also on my friend's 2009wfp he was using vga
and the text had a blue smear to the right. I switched it to dvi and it went away.

For gaming I doubt it would be noticeable.

I'm going analog too. I just recently bought three new monitors and a USD 175 DP->DVI adapter. I used this adapter for two days before I packed it back in its box. I never got the flickering I've read about, but the monitor connected through DP would completely black out from time to time. To get it back I would have to unplug the adapter and plug it back in again. Now I'm waiting for my saviour - Sapphire active DP to VGA adapter - to arrive in the mail.
