Hi,
I want to make 8 (4x2) monitors to work with resolution 7680x2160.

The monitors are 42 inch LG M4210LCBA (1920x1080) with hdmi input (v.1.3) with build in matrix function (up to 5x5).
I was considering using Radeon 7970 and eyefinty, but I don't know if I can us only one card with 2 display ports (2x 3840x2160) or should I use 2 cards.

Because monitors have hdmi 1.3 I think I will need something to split 3840x2160 from display port to 4 1920x1080 hdmi.

Please help me, because I'm lost and really don't know what setup and hardware would be best for this.

The PC will be new, so any configuration is allowed for this project :D

Thanks in advance :)

Hello olgierd,

For that kind of resolution you definitly need two hd 7970 to play battlefield 3 on high fps (If you are planning to play games like that.)
I am not really fimilair with ATI but i don't think you can put 8 screens on just one hd 7970. I would just buy 2x hd7970 so you don't have to strugle with splitting your resolution and you also get higher fps with 2x hd 7970.

I Hope I have given you some ideas to think about. :bigsmile:

so a 4x2 Setup. For gaming? Eyefinity ?

IF you use Crossfire for mor performance you have to plug all conections to one card! So you need to buy an external Adapter. To input 1x DP and output 3x HDMI (don't know if they exist... but DVI should, so more adapters^^) so 6 monitors connected via 2x mini DP- 1x normal HDMI, and 1x DVi-HDMI Adapter.

sure if read about that thing somewhere.... sadly forgot the name.

I'd say jump on an MSI R7970 lightning or ASUS 7970 DCUII card and 4 of these: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4563/zotac-releases-displayport-to-dual-hdmi-adapter

configure it as a 2x2 which would give you 4x2 physically.

Then be ready to buy a second card to crossfire with because of the huge resolution. I'm running 7680x1600 atm and it requires a lot of power. I have to cut back a lot of settings.

Thanks for all the replies :)
I think I will buy 2x 7970.
The aim of this project is to build big digital signage structure, so this pc will have to have a lot of power to deal with video and flash presentations.

@suiken_2mieu:
I was checking this msi card and it looks great, but has mini display port that can output only 2560x1600, so it won't fit 2 monitors neither horizontally nor vertically :/ but asus you mentioned has 4x display port, so it should work in configuration that you proposed (4x2xhdmi) :)

@Haldi:
this asus card has 4 display ports, so all adapters would be connected to one card and from what I read at amd page 7970 can output 4k at display port, so there should be no problem :)

I think the main problem may be with power to run this 7680x2160, especially video (h.264) or flash :/

@Sh4dowking:
as I said the aim is digital signage, but I think we will also play some games on it :D

So the plan now looks like this:
- 2 (or 3?) asus HD7970-DC2T-3GD5 with crossfire
- 4 dp->2xhdmi or 2 dp->4xhdmi adapters
