I know there are a couple other threads on this but I wanted to share my experiences in a new post.

Its real. I read review after review about stuttering when using crossfire and eyefinity and I decided to give it a try myself to find out. Its definitely there. I have tried all the tips I could find for reducing the stutter and although it helps, it doesn't get rid of it. Each and every one of my games seem smoother with a single 5850 than crossfire 5850's. Dont get me wrong, the extra framerates are really impressive, but the smooth experience is not there. I'll more than likely sell my 5850's and get a 6970. Less performance, but at least it will be smooth.

Bottom line: Listen to the people who have tried crossfinity. Stay with a single card.

I'm curious to hear about crossfired 6900 cards in eyefinity. They are supposed to be better in Crossfire.

^Me too, IME with CF and EF if the frames were above 60 the stuttery-ness wasn't there/not noticeable. So with the 6970 in CF, most games you may be able to get 60 plus with the excellent scaling (70-90%). But I am very weary of it having gone from 5970 to 5870CF to 5870 single because of this issue.

Although being able to hack a pair of 6950s to a pair of 6970s for free sounds great!

Having tried 2 x 6850's and getting microstuttering that I could not overlook I doubt I can ever trust crossfire again, sadly. It's just not worth the hassle of buying (and then RMA'ing) a graphics card.

Personally, I never saw it with my 4870X2 card or with the two 4870s in Xfire in my other system.

That's why I have a second 6970 arriving tomorrow to Xfire with my current 6970.

Not saying it's not real...just saying I've personally not seen it.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow evening.
