Is there a reason for screen rotation being greyed out? I have 2 dell 2007wfp and 1 2209wa on a 5870 and rotation is greyed out. If i rotate the monitor, windows is not aware of it and it is still greyed out.

Tips?

I imagine this is what he's talking about:

It started happening to me some time after I got my 5870 last year. It's been like that for a while. I googled it once to find a solution but I think in one of the drivers the option got broken. Don't remember if I found a solution or not since I didn't care about it too much.

Hmm... have you tried, going to "Desktops and Displays" right clicking the triangle on the display and going to the rotate option.

Or have you tried right clicking on your desktop, and going to the "screen resolution" menu in windows?

Yes that's what I was referring to.

Clicking the arrow in desktops and displays just shows configure, which goes back to the other page with the greyed out rotation option.

I can also right click the catalyst trayicon, and the rotate is greyed there too for the monitors.

How would I do eyeyfinity in portrait mode when the rotation options are always greyed out? Or even just 1 monitor that way for taller display of documents?

Hi there, I have been working on this issue for sometime now and this morning, found out that it has something to do when I enable the grouping feature in Catalyst to play Eyefinity games.

Remember that when we enable the Grouping feature to connect all three screens into one? Once this is done, the rotation / orientation features will be greyed out (also the orientation option on Windows) will also disappear.

To Disable the Group:
- Go back to Catalyst CC
- Desktops and Displays section
- In the main display panel Click on the "black down arrow", Select
Display Group, then "Disable"
- This will return the Display Rotation/Orientation selection options
back to Catalyst and also Win 7.

If you do not have the group anymore, then you have to recreate it before you disable it again:
- Startup Catalyst
- Pull down the Graphics Menu and select Desktops and Displays
- In the main display panel Click on the "black down arrow", Select
Display Group, then "Create Group"
- Select the 3 Displays (3x1) option, Click Accept.
- Done!

Now, I'm still finding out how to save the profiles since for the setup that I'm using (3 monitors with the HIS HD5850), the enabling and disabling of the Grouping feature is somehow not saved when I save the profiles ... Everything I need to manually enable/disable them using the steps above...

Thanks that works. It sure is a nuisance if you want to change between 2 setups.

Glad to hear that Nedder.
You are right about it being a nuisance to switch between two setup since I have not yet found how it can be done with a single click .... as of now,, multiple steps are required.

It is always surprising to learn that after so many years of creating various versions of Catalyst, ATI/AMD still could not get these simple things right ...
