My Win 7 based setup:

Mobo:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=X58%20EXTREME

(2)ATI 5870 Video Cards for Eyefinity:
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?leg=&psn=000101&pid=337

3rd Card for 4th monitor:
Ati 2400 Pro PCI express from a dell box that was laying around

Driver Version:
Catalyst Version: 10.4 Everything has been working until I tried this new setup so I tend to fall on the side of dont mess with a good thing, hence why I havent updated to the latest drivers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running into problems trying to get this to work. I see the additional monitor in my under windows screen resolution and ATI Control Panel but it is labeled as disabled. Its a dell 19" lcd with both DVI and vga. Neither connection changes the current problem. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Well the major issue here is that 5000 series cards (for the exception of eyefinity 4/5/6 special edition cards) is that they cannot output to more than 3 displays at once. In crossfire the other cards are unable to send create outputs that aren't identical to the main card.

This card reports to support 4 screens, 3 DVI and 1 with an adapter.

I'm looking at getting one of these to sort out the active display adapter issue i'm having. If what they say is correct i'd be able to use that for a 4th screen so not a total waste.

Hmm... well that's significantly less power and it cant crossfire with the 5850s you have. if you want to use if to just run extra monitors sure, sounds good to me.
