K, trying to find something common between those who have this issue.
i'm thinking mobo myself.

i have a gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R rev 1 motherboard running both pci ie slots at 16x with sapphire 5970's

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't the connection between us all that we have 2 5970's in crossfire + eyefinity? Are you implying that someone has actually had this configuration working?

K, i got another mobo.p6t se and moved the 2 5970's to it and did a full win 7 64 reinstall.
Again went through all the driver revisions, but still getting poor performance with crossfire enabled with eyefinity.

K, intresting, but jedi adademy works perfectly with crossfire and eyefinity, it even vsyncs at 60hz instead of 120 hz.

I believe it is because jedi academy is an opengl game.

Can people try out any opengl games that you can get to work with eyefinity and crossfire , it may invlove a widescreen fix to make it work, but we dont care if the fov or aspect is out. Just need to confirm that the problems are with the d3d driver instead of the opengl one.

If you have a suggestion of an opengl game/demo that seems to work for you I could give it a try and see if that is the case. It seems logical that it might work for opengl and not for direct3d since im sure they have different code bases. I'm also downloading the 8.74 leaked drivers to see if that works for me. I notice in another thread you mention it causes crashes for you, but a good sign that it seems to contain a fix...

Some members of the Guru3d forum have reported 5970 crossfire (yes: 2*5970) + Eyefinity to finally be working with 10.5 driver ! Quadfinity finally !
I will test tonight when I will be back from the office to confirm it.

The long wait may finally be over :D

Hmms... raw power of 480s, or Quadfinity (if it works) + PhysX. If the issue really is fixed then it's gunna make my decision making a whole lot harder :? 2 5970 + PhysX is *alot* easier & cheaper to setup & cool than a Quad-SLI 480 setup after all...

I look forward to hearing more about this development.

I have tested several games and there are good and bad points:

Pros:
- For all the games I tested, FPS with 2 5970 is at least what it was with 1*5970
In a way it was the minimum to expect.... but it is quite new as previously, 2*5970 resulted in very poor FPS

Cons:
- Scaling is quite bad in most cases (improvement is between 0% and 20%)
- 2 * 5970 generate a lot of heat and therefore, the cards need to be run at ref clocks (maybe not for everybody, but for me it is necessary)
-> There comes the issue, in several games, the FPS I get with 2*5970 is better than 1*5970 at ref clocks (725/1000)... but at the same level than what I get with my 5970 overclocked at 875/1250
So currently, there are only a few games where I will benefit from this new quadfire + Eyefinity support.

Globally my feedback is that 10.5 bring a great step forward but scaling needs to be improved for quadfinity to be interesting

Same here, 2 5970's give about the same framerate, be it not as smooth as 1 card....so, i am still the proud owner of a 600 euro watercooled paperweight!
Ati,bring us 10.6 with phenomenal scaling please.....

This is still and issue? Has anyone heard or talked to Dave about this? Just curious if he knows what is going on and or if they plan to fix the issue. Been seeing people on other forums mentioning the same thing. Hope they fix this for everyone, because it looks bad for ATI.

An official word from ATI would be nice :- Considering the lack of raw power in the 5xxx series, Crossfire is almost a requirement for high detail Eyefinity.
