So is there any way of disabling the automatic stretch for FMVs and the hud?

The goal would be a combination of correct ingame gfx aspec ratio (which can be achieved through the correct resolution in the opt.ini) and a unstreched HUD / FMV.

I'm guessing that there is no way to achieve that without either editing the hud textures and the movies or some magical binary hacking. Maybe even both.
Fixing the cutscenes would require either letterboxing or zooming to a specific aspect ratio (and propably an anamorph stretch to the original resolution) and then reencode the result to BIK with RAD Video Tools.
I don't know what would happen if you did the same for the small "VS" movie bits of the challenges, since the background, the portraits and the flaming VS logo are seperate clips that the game positions on-screen where they belong. They'd be a bit off to the left and right propably.
