I just bought Grand Theft Auto San Andreas version 3.0 via Steam and am having trouble running it in 1920x1080 (16:9).
In fact, there seem to be no options for 16:9 in any form.
I have spent several hours reading/searching forums for a fix with no luck.
I have updated all of my drivers with no results.

Edited to add: The opening logo movie on start up does not play.

If anyone could help, please do.
I have provided some information below. if any aditional information is needed, please ask.

Computer (Up to date):
Dell Studio 1745 Notebook
Windows 7
Intel Core 2 Duo P8700, 2.53GHz
4GB, DDR3, 1066MHz
17.3 inch Full HD (1080p) B+RG LED Display
ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4650 1GB

Game Resolutions and Aspect Ratios Availible In Game:
(If you notice, some repeat them selves...???)
640x480x16 (4:3)
800x600x16 (4:3)
1024x768x16 (4:3)
1280x1024x16 (5:4)
640x480x32 (4:3)
800x600x32 (4:3)
1024x768x32 (4:3)
1280x1024x32 (5:4)
640x480x32 (4:3)
800x600x32 (4:3)
1024x768x32 (4:3)
1280x1024x32 (5:4)

I have recieved so much help in the past from this site and felt the I should come here first.

Thanks,
Charles

The game *should* support the resolution natively. I'm guessing you can use your native res in other games?

Check in "GTA San Andreas User Files" in your My Documents folder for the config file to see if there's a resolution setting in there you can edit.

"Gallery" - file folder - nothing inside
"User Tracks" - file folder - nothing inside
"gta_sa.set" - SET file - opened with notepad ...jibberish :)

I deleted all local content and reinstalled with no luck.

I tried Resolution Changer 2 which resulted in the game moving to the left side of my screen still in 4:3 ratio.

I looked in ....DocumentsGTA San Andreas User Files
I found no config files.

I looked in ...Steamsteamappscommongrand theft auto san andreas
I found one configuration file... "strem.ini" ...amoung "gta-sa.exe"
Contents:
memory 13500
devkit_memory 13500
vehicles 12
pe_lightchangerate 0.0005
pe_lightingbasecap 0.35
pe_lightingbasemult 0.5
pe_leftx 16
pe_topy 16
pe_rightx 16
pe_bottomy 16
dontbuildpaths

....I'm at a loss.

It seems v3.0 was meant to keep modding at bay, so maybe a specific version of the cam hack would be required. The disappearance of 16:9 resolutions is just weird though.

Could it be a Windows 7 issue?

I was sifting through the thread over at steam and found this...
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1032185

In the first post the user states:
"The intro video never plays, I get audio but just a black screen...And there is no option for my 1600x900 display (Only displays in 4:3), "

I also do not see the video but hear the audio and am only seeing mostly 4:3 display options.

...I have sent in a question to steam about this, but I do not expect an answer.

There may be no fix this time.....

Edit to add:
The 6th post by nJice states...
"Everything working fine here (Win 7 64, 5870), with intro movies and overlay working too.
Check drivers?"

So...maybe it's not Windows 7 since my drivers are up to date.

I just don't know.

Your resies are capped at 1280x1024 but you display at 1920x1080. Do you have more resolutions between those two? If so, that would indicate a driver problem or amybe the game is limiting the choice of available resies.

I would try the duplicates just in case as well.

Also, there are no widescreen resies there. Look for a widescreen toggle in the options. That might be limiting what is available to you.

The only resolution avaible to me via Windows 7 or the ATI Catalyst are:
800x600 (4:3)
1024x768 (4:3)
1280x720 (16:9)
1280x1024 (5:4)
1920x1080 (16:9)

I tried running the game in every resolution availible in the game with and without the widescreen option checked off in the menu.

No Changes.

I contacted my brother and gave him access to my Steam account so he could download GTA:SA on his PC desktop.

His PC has the following stats...

Computer:
Dell XPS Desktop
Windows XP
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.8GHz
Memory: 1022 MB RAM
Display: Dell 2208WFP (22 inch) 1680x1050
ATI RADEON X850 Platinum Edition

He has told me that he is running the game in 1680x1050.

He said the resolution was availible in the in game menu.

I have no idea where to go from here...

edit to add:
I checked my driver one more time to see if it was truly up to date.
windows says it is...

...well I went to the ATI Site and found that the new driver was released on the 17th (version 8.671)

I currently have version 8.631...

I will update and report back. 8)

.....no changes were made via driver update

:?

Might want to check refresh rates. If the game is in a different refresh rate than what 1920x1080 supports it might not show up in game.

You could try refreshforce to test.

The refrsh rate for san andreas is 60hz.

...and the only only availible refresh rate via windows 7 or ATI Catalyst is 60hz on my computer.
