I tried the patch and so far, it works perfectly on Win 7 (got past the catacombs and now on to fight Helga's elite forces :)). Thanks a lot, I really like this title!
Not to seem ungrateful but I have mostly played this game (and most games I play) on Linux and would like to have the equivalent wide-screen for Linux. I have never been able to install RTCW in Wine/Crossover/Cedega because under wine, the RTCW installer can't read the second install CD. However, there is a port to Linux (from Id actually) which uses an altogether different install mechanism that works fine.
But the spiffy wide-screen DLL's won't work with a native Linux port. However, Id has published an SDK that can build the needed .so files (Linux equivalent to DLL's). This forum http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=117684, post #12 describes the rebuild technique for Linux using the RTCW SDK which I found at http://www.filefront.com under the name: wolf-linux-sdk-1.41.x86.run. So I think it should be possible to use the modified source code to build the needed Linux .so files and executable.
Incidentally, RTWC installed on win 7 from the Platinum Edition CD's without using any compatibility gadgetry and no problems whatsoever. However, when I tried using the compatibility gadgetry, the game would not start (it complained about not be able to start open GL).
