Hi! If you have tried too high resolution or too high settings in Dirt, you may not be able to start the game. Here is a way to fix the problem. (Tested in XP x64). Locate "hardware_settings_config.xml". It should be located in your DiRt/system folder. (example: C:GamesDiRTsystem) First make a copy by Right-click hardware_settings_config.xml and choose Copy. Then Paste in the same folder. You should now have a copy of your ini-file called Copy of hardware_settings_config.xml. This is your backup if something goes wrong. (If you mess up when changing resolution, just delete the ini-file you have modified, and delete the "Copy of"-part from the name of your backup, and you should be back to where you started.) Right-click hardware_settings_config.xml and choose to Open with... notepad. In Notepad, press Ctrl+F and paste resolution width next to Find what: . Then click on Find Next. You should now have located resolution width, for With and Hight, and you can change resolution to your likings. To get DiRT up and running again, I recommend you set it to a low resolution like: resolution width="800" height="600" aspect="normal". Make sure you choose resolutions that are supported by your screen(s)!!! Close Notepad and choose to Save Changes. You now have a new resolution and should be able to start DiRT. First thing you should do before rising your resolutions again, is to make a copy of the new file you have made. (Same way as described over, except it will be called: Copy (2) of hardware_settings_config.xml ). Then turn the Shadow value all the way down (Inside DiRT). High Shadow setting eats up memory on your graphics card. I have 768MB on my card, and if I turn shadows all the way up in 5040x1050, I run out of memory... Hope this helps someone.. 8) |
