My TV is an older Mitsubishi CRT rear projection. the only resolutions it accepts from my pc are 640x480, 1280x1024, 1776x1000, and 1920x1080. The last two being interlaced.

The problem lies with call of duty 4. When it loads the screen loses sync as the game is trying to use a res that my TV can not handle. I know there is supposed to be a config file where I can change the default res, but I can not find it for the life of me.

UT3, and Bioshock all start up fine in my native resolutions.

Any help would be appreciated. I am running v1.4

thanks,

Don

I don't have CoD4, but I believe the series uses .cfg files for configuration. Have you tried a *.cfg file search of the game directory? Perhaps with a "containing text" entry for something like 'resolution' or 'width' or 'screen'?

I'm downloading the demo now, but it may take awhile.

Also, :welcome

Thanks for the welcome!

I have done a system wide search for *.cfg and *.ini files. Nothing came up for this game.

I am going to break out my old CRT monitor and see if switching resolutions on it will help.

thanks,

Don

Good idea. Have you successful run the game at all yet?

Installing demo now.

edit
OK. Ran the demo. I found a config.cfg file in this directory:
E:GamesCall of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare Demoplayersprofiles[playername]

it has these lines in it:

seta r_mode "1440x900"
seta r_displayRefresh "75 Hz"

Got it on your system?

I just checked my directory and there is no players folder. This is good as it leads me to believe that when I drag the monitor into the house tomorrow that I can at least create a player profile and then hopefully change the config file.

thanks for all your help both of you!

Don

Maybe you don't need the monitor. Try my config file:

http://generaladmission.home.comcast.net/files/config.cfg.zip

Create the relevant subdirectories in the game folder, like we've posted previously. For the playername use 'player1', like this:

C:Program FilesActivisionCall of Duty 4 - Modern Warfareplayersprofilesplayer1config.cfg

I changed the ID inside the config.cfg file to refer to 'player1'. Also make sure the file is named config.cfg. I think I stuck a .bak extension on it.

If it loads correctly, you can then create a new profile for yourself.

Let us know how things work out.

:)

Thanks to both of you for trying to help, but I was unable to get it working. Maybe I finally need to get rid of my ancient Mitsubishi TV!
