Right, so I have a 22" Westinghouse monitor with a native res of 1680x1050. I am currently trying to play Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus. Unfortunately, it seems the only widescreen res available is 1280x720. I've come to grips with this at this point (unless somebody has a workaround).

The problem is this. When I use the options to run the game in fullscreen at this res, the image seems to be jittery. They aren't jaggies, but weird little wobbly patterns in the image itself. Is this something to do with 1280x720 being 16:10 and 1680x1050 being 16:9?

Anyway, I now run the program in a window. I can actually manually stretch the window out without getting some same strange jitters, but I can't quite get it to fill the screen. Are there any apps out there that will force a window to go fullscreen? I've tried Sizer, but it refuses to work for me.

Have you tried changing the desktop resolution to something else?

Based on this previous post, it would seem this game engine just isn't widescreen friendly, at least for 16:10.

You could try Shellenhancer's auto-manage funtions to attempt to force the window to maximum size:

Other than BlueMak's tip, I can't think of anything else offhand.

1280x720 is 16:9 and 1680x1050 is 16:10. So the image is wider than your monitor. I am unsure if you can get it to lettbox by keeping the aspect ratio with your video card. Perhaps someone more familiar with that can help. This might explain the visual distortion.

If you cannot get it to letterbox your best bet is to use a 4:3 resolution pillarboxed or stretched fullscreen. This may remove the distortion. Or play in a 1280x1024 window.

Unfortunately the PSU series has been resistant to any methods for other widescreen resolutions.

Very weird. On a whim, I tried setting my desktop resolution to 1440x900, launched the game, and lo and behold, suddenly there was an option for 1280x800--from everything I read, the game wasn't supposed to have any 16:10 support, but there it is. Anyway, I suppose if anybody else has a similar problem, try good ol' lucky 1440x900.

Absolutely. At work at the moment without access to the game, but I will when I'm off.

Ok, so apparently I had a lapse of complete retardation yesterday...I checked out my settings, per request, and it turns out that switching my desktop resolution to 1440x900 made 1280x960 show up, not 1280x800.

Still, it looks quite a lot better in fullscreen than the other resolutions. Sorry for the confusion, though.

Glad you found an acceptable solution.
