Hi all, I just purchased an Asus G2S-A1 laptop and am in the process of getting my games working on it. I've got Q4 patched up to the current version but am having a problem with using a custom resolution.

I can select 16:10 from the settings menu, but only 1920x1200 shows up as being a selectable resolution. The game runs well, but I would like to run a lower rez to gain some FPS. 1920x1200 is pretty taxing with the settings on High.

I have tried all the config things like mode -1 and customheight and width, but whenever I start up the game it goes into the default mode and tells me there was an error.

Does anyone have any idea why it would be doing this?

I'm pretty certain that the reason these custom resolutions aren't working is because your system doesn't support it. Take a look at your desktop resolution slider, and check all the available resolutions. If you don't see a resolution here, you won't be able to use it in any game.

Fortunately, you *can* add custom resolutions to your drivers. If you have an nVidia card, this is easy. If you have an ATI card, this is hard. What is your video card?

Thats what I thought initially, but the slider has 1600x1024 and that won't even work :(

Its an nvidia 8600m GT

That resolution probably isn't supported by the game. It's an unusual resolution, and it isn't exactly widescreen anyway.

Anyway, make sure you have the latest Forceware drivers, and follow this tutorial to add custom resolutions to your drivers:

Also, it occurred to me that you are probably using Vista. I know that nVidia's first Vista drivers did not support this custom resolution feature like their WinXP drivers do. I don't know if they have fixed this yet.

Alright, well I installed the latest drivers from laptopvideo2go which is 165.01. Now when I try to even start quake4 up it gives me a "Texture Compression not available" error. Any ideas why?
