How is a 6600GT too weak for 1440x900 in Dark Messiah? I run it on a 9800 Pro with settings up on high with 1440x900. And either way, 1280x800 or something like that should be available.

I made some benchmarks.

At the beginning of first level while standing in this corridor I've got:

22 fps @1440x900 everything high except HDR
28 fps @1440x900 everything low
33 fps @1152x864 everything high except HDR
39 fps @1024x768 everything high except HDR

So I'm playing 1024x768 and it's good for the first level where framerate drops sometimes to 28fps and good hiccups of 20fps (is it 1GB RAM not enough for this game?)

But second level of the demo it's about 17 fps while staring at this "platform" or whatever you call it.

I run it in 1280*800 or something like this resolution. You should be able to access it.

I can't and don't know why. It doesn't matter anymore 'cause I've finish the demo few times and deleted it :D Nice game anyhow.

I tried using the "-width x - height y" parameter in the shorcut to the game exe, which is supposted to work for halflife 2 based games but I could not get it to recognise and use any of the custom res that I've set up with the drivers. 1280 x 800 is a bit too slow for my pc and a lower res would be be better for performance.

I've added custom resolution of 1280x800 in my drivers and now I have the choice :-) GeForce 6600GT is fast enough to run this game at that resolution. What's bother me is hiccups. When destroying platforms and not only then. I think 1GB RAM is sufficient but my CPU Athlon XP 2GHz@400MHz FSB can handle all that phisics :-(

Edit: I tried adding lower resolution then 1280x800 like 960x600 in Forceware's control panel but it didn't work.

How does Dark Messiah handle 16:10 widescreen? Since it's Source engine I figured it would handle it perfectly, but the readme says 16:10 widescreen is not official supported in the demo (it makes no mention of 16:9).

I'm downloading the demo right now...

I have an Athlon 64 3500, gig of ram, BFG Geforce 6800 OC (weakest link) and a SATA 10,000 RPM HD, and my frame rates are barely acceptable at 1440x900 with vsync on and AA off.
If I switch to a 4:3 resolution, it's much more playable.

The demo offers official support for 16:10 and 16:9 just like most (all?) source games.

OK now that I've played through the demo, I've confirmed that the game has some sort of bug where, on my system at least (7800GTX) the frame rates are horrible at 16:10 resolution but are just fine at 4:3 or 16:9 resolutions that are about the same number of pixels.

Going from 1920x1200 and max settings to 1920x1080 and max settings boosted my frame rate by more than 30fps... so yeah 16:10 in the game is broken right now.

Anyway, I played through the game at 1920x1080 resolution with all settings maxed except antialiasing which I turned off. HDR set to full and AF set to 16x. I got smooth frame rates all the way through. (AMD64 and 7800GTX).

Sound settings were set to High and 5.1 speakers. There's no EAX support in the game from what I can tell, however like the positional audio is excellent. There are also lots of ambient sounds and environmental sounds like crackling fires and clinking chains. (X-Fi Platinum).

I have a basic 7200RPM hard drive and 1.5 GB of basic Corsair Value RAM but the game loads very quickly and never hiccuped.
