Anyone got ideas on how to get this game widescreen? I'm keen to buy it and start playing it again but want to check widescreen first!

Anyone?

as far as i know only the diablo2 expansion back supports a resolution of 800*600....and the Diablo2 Original game only 640*480, as far as i can remember! The Resolution has sucked when the game came out - even more today on the big screens.....

so this game is really nothing to play on big screens.....only in a small window perhaps...

Because of all of the prerendered artwork Blizzard initially chose 640x480 as a good balance between install size, system specs, and number of CDs the game came on. When they worked on the expansion I believe they stated that they had to redo the artwork to work correctly at 800x600.

Yes, it is a pain today, but their choices did make reasonable sense when they released the game.

no, i am not ur opinion......
When they released the game in 2000, the resolution of 640+480 was not state of the art! It was just old fashioned! I can remember that many people critisised the low resolution - and with the expansion Blizzard descided to rise it to 800*600 - wow.

What's really amazing is that you can still see this game prominently displayed in most video game stores and major retailers at around 30 to 40 dollars....still!

I was at Target yesterday and Diablo II was being offered for around 35 dollars. Now that's sustainable value

The game looks terrible in widescreen, but to fix it just play it in windowed mode with the -w option at the shrotcut

I was poking around trying to get this work when I first got a widescreen display. With just Diablo 2 installed, there are no res options anywhere. With Lord of Destruction installed, they introduced a registry switch - 0 for 640x480, and 1 or 800x600. No widescreen, and no higher res's. If you've got a 2405, aspect scale the game, and ramp anti-aliasing up to max...

Hey how exactly do I ascpect scale and ramp up aa? I've done ini and patches for games and never come across how to change this, forgive me stupidity.

I love the game, it has a great story and the options are endless for characters! Need to make sure it looks sweet.

I'm presuming you're using a Dell monitor. ;) :D

When you've got a non-native res displayed, you can use the OSD to set monitor scaling to 'fixed aspect'. An 800x600 output will be scaled up to fill 1600x1200, with a black bar down each side. You can also do this in the graphics card driver control panel if you've got an nVidia card. Increasing anti-aliasing should be a simple case of playing around in the same graphics card display control panel. :)

It's not the most elegant fix, unless you can set up program default settings for each game, because you'd have to change the AA settings back down again if you wanted to play a more recent game. I tend to play one single game to death, though, then move on an play another... ;)
