I was unable to resist the 20% off deal DELL recently ran on the 2405 FPW. It came yesterday and I am learning as I go.

Most everything has gone well and I am more than pleased so far.

My number #1 game is NASCAR Racing 2003. I race in a weekly league using the GTP mod ( REDLINE). As noted by someone else here, NR 2003 supports 1920 X 1200 natively so I fired it up and was wowed.

My next thought was to adjust the field of view to the wider aspect ratio. NR2003 provides an adjustment in the graphics options page to adjust the field of view from 65 to 78 degrees. I set it to 78 degrees but saw no change. Moved it back and forth a few times and convinced myself it wasn't doing anything.

Anyone here have this game and know anything about this adjustment?

My system: 1.8GHz Athlon XP and Radeon 9800 Pro, Windows XP.

Thanks

Dave Bradley

Hello ... welcome to the WSGF ... :D

I downloaded the demo to take a look ...

You are correct ... the FOV option in the game doesn't work with widescreen resolutions ...
It does work with 4x3 resolutions ...

BUT ... you are automatically getting a wider FOV than the 4x3 at a FOV of 65 ... :D

Click on the thumbnail to see larger shot ...
4:3 FOV 65

4:3 FOV 78

16:10

I have updated the Solution to reflect these findings ... :D

Many thanks. I had begun to have some thoughts this way myself but you were already there with proof positive examples.

Of note perhaps is that I feared my system would be overwhelmed with the need to generate so many more pixels. Initially it seemed so as my frame rate dropped into the low 30s ( in the pits at Lime Rock). I updated to the lated Catalyst drivers from ATI and was very pleasantly surprised to see the frame rate under the same conditions rise to the high 70s.
