I have just purchased aViewsonic VA 1912w Widescreen monitor and will intend to use it a lot for gaming. I use an Asus 6600GT Extreme Nvidia graphics card. Having installed the monitor I seem to be unable to get access to the performance and quality settings within the nvidia display properties to enable v-sync and therefore get rid of the bad tearing I experience when in games on this monitor. I would really appreciate if anyone can advise if this is a driver issue or due to the widescreen nature of the monitor. I am keen to get an answer reasonably soon I may have to return the monitor for an alternative as it is not suitable for gaming if this issue remains unresolved.

If you can't get to the driver options then your drivers are borked and you should uninstall and then resinstall them.

Also uninstall any other previously installed devices & drivers (phantom) for monitors or nvidea. You probably have a ton of them.

I eventually found the solution. I use Coolbits occasionally to overclock my graphics card and had recently done this just prior to getting the monitor. It transpires that the Coolbits 2 reg fix enables the Nvidia Overclocking settings but in the process also adds Direct 3d and Open GL additional settings. When these are enabled the Performance and Quality tab is removed and therefore I could not access the Game Profiles.

I have now managed to enable V-sync and triple buffering which has got rid of the annoying tearing as you would expect. I am also using NV tweak to access the additional NVidia settings. You can get it here:-

Thanks for the help though as it was only through re-intalling an older Graphics card driver that I realised what had happened.

I also bought this monitor recently and have run into a bit of a snag when loading the monitor drivers I found at viewsonics website.

BF2:SF used to support resolutions for this monitor up to 1280x1024@60hz listed in XP as plug n play monitor, after loading those monitor drivers I only see up to 1152x864@75hz in BF2:SF and XP reports the monitor as viewsonic VA1912wb.

Now i rolled back the monitor drivers to what XP used to report as plug n play monitor and BF2 :SF wont run, black screen then CTD. I figured that somehow those unsupported resoulutions were still reporting in the game and not allowing me to run BF2:SF . So i modified the video.con file to report 1024x768@60 and BF2:SF runs now.

My question is do you or anyone else know how can I get BF2:SF to run as close to native (1440x900@60hz) without reinstalling it. AGAIN! because i had to reinstall BF2:SF so many times for other reasons that deserve another post on its own and do not wish to discuss any longer for the sake of my sanity.

The install disc didn't work automatically for me either. I had to use Device Mnager(or alternative route) to get windows to give me the option to update the driver manually for the monitor. You then navigate the search manually to the 'vs files' folder on the accompanying disc and subsequently the folder for your operating system eg. xp and it should fund an inf file. It will tell you this is not signed in the case of XP but just proceed and this should work.

Any further probs and I can possibly guide yoiu better. I take it you got a driver disc with the monitor.

I actually d/loaded the signed driver from viewsonics website.

The desktop native resolution works fine, BF2:SF no longer reports all the resolutions I was used to seeing when the monitor was listed as "plug n play "

I rarely use drivers off accompanng disc's, they always seem to be out of date.

I think I have solved what was happening to me in BF2:SF , and that was accomplished by rolling back to the plug n play driver, editing the .con files in both default and current player folders in c:mydocumentbf2 folder. Now I say i think because I ran the game for about an hour, and god knows the luck I have had with the :SF installation, I just hope nothing creeps up on me.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
